How is this movie? I heard Guy Ritchie's style is much like Tarantino's, and that should be very good..

How is the movie, what's it about? Is it funny, or dumb? Is it anything like Tarantino's work?

I thought it was a really good movie after about 45 minutes or so. I need to rewatch it sometime (I recently picked up the dvd). The first time, I watched it with other people, other drunk people. The alcohol did not allow us to focus much on the movie so we were really clueless what was going on for about the first half of the movie. Then things started to come together and we were really surprised how entertaining it became.

The movie is very good, but it's actually quite different from any other typical Tarantino bloodbath. It's closer to The Full Monty in dry humor and irony than Pulp Fiction.

Lock stock is an excellent film; you can pick it up for 11.98 + no shipping from deepdiscountdvd if you're interested.

It's a lot of fun to watch though, and a very interesting debut from Guy Ritchie. I'm kinda disappointed though, because Snatch is really just more of the same, when I wanted something a lil fresher. Oh well, maybe next time :-)

yeah, I agree. I thought that Lock, Stock was better than Snatch, but will probably buy it anyway because it has Benicio in it. Being a Benicio fan is not as much fun anymore now that he had to go and become a star and all this year. Happy for him, though.

Guy Ritchie: "Hey! Hey! I'm gonna make this really grainy contrasty film with lots of annoying Cockney slang and the requisite 'eclectic' songtrack and cartoon violence and it's gonna be COOOL!"

This was, as I have made obvious, an ordeal to sit through. Guy Ritchie should be tossed off a cliff with his demon-wife into the pop-culture dustbin.

i loved the movie, but two words of caution. first, you will probably have to watch it more than once to get what is going on. there are a bunch of characters to keep track of, and it took me numerous viewings to catch everything (or at least i hope i caught everything). second, the accents are difficult at first.

I saw Snatch first and I loved it. Then I bought LSATSB because I heard it was very similar to Snatch. To tell you the truth, I was very disappointed and I could barely sit through the whole movie. Although, if someone forced me to sit through it again, I wouldn't want to kill myself or anything, but I suggest renting this one first.

I think that this might be a case of since the films are so similar story wise and stylistically, that people tend to prefer what they saw first because that was more exciting for them (READ: Brian Ritchie, you'd better do something new next time or people won't care about or like your films) Just my guess though; I could be wrong. You are the first person I have heard say they preferred Snatch to Lock Stock and I am just guessing it is because you saw Snatch first.

I can't believe all the hostility toward Guy and his film. Someone actually said that he and his "demon-wife" should be tossed off a cliff? Wow. Come on guys...he just makes movies. He's not a prophet.

For the person who wanted a review, I highly recommend it, as would anyone I know that has seen it. It's a stretch to compare him to Tarantino I think...the only similarity is odd filmmaking.

Give it a rent. I bought it two weeks ago and have watched it 3 times. It's great, but even better the second time around.

First off, I would like to say that Lock, Stock is an awesome movie (and I have all my teeth ). It is not like Tarantino's films in style (I don't think), they are somewhat similar in storylines, though I think Lock, Stock is a much smarter film than many of Tarantino's. I saw Lock, Stock in the theatre and bought it when it was released. I have watched it numerous times since. It only gets better with repeat viewings.

Also, I saw Snatch in the theatre as well (after Lock, Stock obviously) and liked it better. Not to take away from the first, but the they were both great films. They are very similar though. Snatch is a little more daring in style than was the first, I think because Ritchie got his name out and can now get away with that sort of stuff. I didn't find the accents hard to understand. My suggestion would be to red the Cocknty-Rhyming Slang Dictionary special feature on the DVD before watching the film (though I did fine without it).

Anyway, I highly recommend the film and the DVD is pretty cheap to boot.
