Why were these two gems cancelled? Jack of All Trades from Sam Raimi, was a mix between Wild, Wild West (in a good way), Get Smart, Brisco County Jr. and maybe a hint of Bond. It had Bruce Campbell, a beautiful woman, a midget Napoléon Bonaparte, a talking parrot and lots of French people-how could you go wrong? Then for the American Pie\Road Trip crowd there was Shasta McNasty, later renamed Shasta which didn't really have a plot but was just damn funny. Both shows had regular guest appearances by Verne Troyer (Mini Me) playing Napoléon Bonaparte & a bar owner. I really hope these make it to DVD someday!

Chad, this thread is like squirting lemon juice into a wound that has just about scabbed over. I was just gettting over the cancellation and you have to remind me about the show. I'm getting all emotional here about Jack of All Trades.
I wasn't even aware it was cancelled until I turned on the television to watch it one night (showed at 11:30 p.m. Sunday nights in my area. One possible reason no one ever saw it.) and Cleopatra 2525 just kept on going past its original half-hour length. That hurt me more than anything else. Go ahead and cancel my Bruce Campbell series, I'm getting used to it by now, but to extend that crap Cleopatra 2525 to an hour show?!?

Yeah, I didn't understand. We always laughed at how idiotic Cleopatra was, yet it gets expanded to an hour while a quality show like Jack gets canned? Guess T&A + bad acting/plots/everything wins out over something that was actually good and fun.
Fortunately Cleo bit the dust too.

No, Cleo 2525 was officially cancelled. I couldn't find the original document, but here is a post from another board that quotes the official cancellation notice:
http://www.studiosusa.com/mb/NonCGI/...ML/001552.html
"At one time canceled, Cleopatra
2525 was later said to be returning
to take the place of the departed
Xena in a retooled one-hour
format...but no more.
According to the Hollywood
Reporter, in an official statement
the program's production company,
Studios USA Domestic Television,
explained their reason for yanking
the show, saying, "Because of the
current environment, with newer
broadcast networks expanding into time slots once held
by hour shows, Cleopatra 2525 will not be coming back."
The studio also noted that in the future, given how tough it
now is to launch one-hour weekly shows in syndication, all
their future programs will also have sales to cable as well.
The studio also stated that, in part, that was their reasoning
for ending Xena, stating, "We cannot continue to do weekly
hours in the form we have always done them and invest the
kind of money into them when it comes to producing weekly
shows in the future...We want to follow the dual-platform
production model we developed for Invisible Man, which
airs successfully on both stations and on the Sci Fi Channel."
