Looking for review/opinion on the following titles:

~EVENT HORIZON (my friend said it was the worst movie he ever saw...I'm still interested though)

~ THE NINTH GATE

~ RAZORBLADE SMILE (vampire hit-woman, sounds great!)

thanks!

EVENT HORIZON - The first part of the movie was pretty good. It had a good/interesting story line going and kind of a creepy/suspenseful feel to it. However, then it fell flat in the usual hack/slash flick (and not a very good one at that) If you like those kind of movies it's worth a rental, otherwise avoid it.

THE NINTH GATE - Too over the top w/ the whole satanism thing for my tastes. It was an interesting enough movie while watching it, until the end. I didn't like what they did w/ Depp's character (although you could see it coming), nor the basic filmaking techniques they used. It was just cheesy IMHO

Guess I'm in the minority - but I thought EVENT HORIZON was terrific. Saw it when first released to theatres, and grabbed the DVD immediately!

The Talented Mr. Ripley: Neither the movie nor the DVD are anything special.

Oh, sorry - I got confused. The Ninth Gate rocks. It has a kind of fairy tale side to it so if you watch it like you would Robinson Caruso then it works.

I'm going to have to totally disagree with nemeim on Event Horizon. I loved the movie and thought it was one of the best blending on science fiction and horror I had seen to date. Now this is not to say that I am right or nemeim is wrong. Many people I know and have posted that they did not find the movie of any value to them. I think the biggest determing factor is whether or not one can understand the technical premise of the movie. This is an area that I found most viewers did not. In fact, I had invited over some friends to view the movie and explained the idea so they understood it before they viewed it. They enjoyed the movie entirely

Event Horizon: I saw it in the movie theater and then bought it on DVD recently. This is probably THE scariest movie that I've ever seen... watching it on DVD, even *knowing* what was going to happen, I was still freaked out (and so was my husband . I just realized the other day that we saw the DVD while we still had our small TV... I'm half scared to think of watching it again on our new widescreen TV...!

Ninth Gate: I definitely liked it, thought it was different and very enjoyable, and am going to get it one of these days on DVD.

Guess it's an even split, guys. For once nemein and I agree that Event Horizon fell apart at the seams about halfway through. I found it hokey and predictable.
