Ever since I read the title of this thread, I've had the theme to "The Simpsons" running through my head...

Just curious, would anyone change their answers if the topic was qualified with Best Show Ever For One Season? I don't mean shows that lasted only only one season, but a show that for one season of its run, was simply outstanding, like the first season of Murder One. For my money, their first season was one of the best shows to ever grace the airwaves; it was riveting. After that,......eh.

IIRC, the first season of Hill Street Blues was better than any following season. And St. Elsewhere fans crow about the, I think, third season as being the best of the best.

I think my choice brings that up a bit. I picked EZ Streets, which was one for all of 8 episodes. But those were some great episodes.

The correct answer is Twin Peaks.
(With Homicide a close second.)

For me, it would be a tie between I Love Lucy and The Dick Van Dyke Show. Both of these shows were pioneers in the situation comedy genre. Both set standards that most newer shows have tried to duplicate. Especially I Love Lucy, which invented most of the concepts we now associate with sit-coms.
