USPS lost my package that I sent to Amazon.com ...

I returned a package to Amazon.com with Delivery Confirmation. I checked tracking on the web and it said that the package was refused. I had packed everything exactly as described, using the label that came with the package.
They refused it on the 4th, and it's not back to me yet. I live in Illinois and the Amazon.com facility is in Kentucky (that's just one state over for the geography-challenged). It took 2 business days to get there, so it should really be back to me by now.
What's the most likely scenario?
1. USPS lost the package.
2. The package was misrouted and it should get to me in the next few days.
3. The tracking information wrong. Amazon.com received it. I should get the receipt confirmation e-mail soon.
Ideas?

i've had packages returned to me and the delivery confirmation usually continues to track the package all the way back to my doorstep... so hopefully you should be able to tell where it is from the USPS website?
