Cold Pursuit (2019) S: Liam Neeson, Laura Dern, Emmy Rossum, Tom Bateman
Lionsgate/Summit’s Liam Neeson action pic Hard Powder will be opening on on Feb. 8 next year, per the studio.
In the movie directed by Hans Petter Moland, Neeson plays Nels Coxman, a local snowplow operator recently named Citizen of the Year of his small Colorado ski town for keeping the roads open through the winter. Nels’ quiet life with his wife (Laura Dern) abruptly spins out of control when their son is unjustly murdered by a local drug cartel. Taking the law into his own hands with only the tools of an outdoorsman and snowplow driver, Nels sets out to find those responsible but inadvertently ignites a gang war that threatens to engulf the town- unless he ends it first. Based on the 2014 Norwegian film 'In Order of Disappearance'.
Neeson’s previous movie with Lionsgate, the StudioCanal production The Commuter, which was part of a distribution deal, grossed $36.3M stateside, close to $120M worldwide. Hard Powder will serve as great older male counterprogramming, facing off against Warner Bros.’ The Lego Movie 2 and Orion’s The Prodigy.

Nels Coxman, a local snowplow operato
Not only am I reminded of Mr. Plow, but I’m also reminded of when James Woods worked at the Kwik E Mart. “What do you mean my character is now a hard headed Eskimo firefighter?”
Biggest flaw in the adaptation is that Colorado ski towns don’t have a lot of drug smugglers or gangs.

COLD PURSUIT, an action thriller infused with irreverent humor, stars Liam Neeson as Nels Coxman, a family man whose quiet life with his wife (Laura Dern) is upended following the mysterious death of their son. Nels’ search for justice turns into a vengeful hunt for Viking (Tom Bateman), a drug lord he believes is connected to the death. As one by one each of Viking’s associates “disappear,” Nels goes from upstanding citizen to ice-cold vigilante, letting nothing — and no one — get in his way. Only in theaters nationwide by Summit Premiere on February 8th, 2019.

Caught the trailer last night, looks way more action packed that the original. I think it looks good...and kind of shocked I now want to see it.

Nice to see William Forsythe and Canada's own Tom Jackson among the bad guys in this. Jackson was off screens for a good five years, but seems to be having a renaissance with the TV show Cardinal up here and now this. Long overdue for a higher-profile gig like this. He even gets his own poster in the set. Decent singer too.

Could this kill its chances at the box office?
I don't know why he had to share that story in today's world and I doubt he is a KKK racist.

I don't know why he had to share that story in today's world and I doubt he is a KKK racist.
Liam Neeson has revealed that years ago he contemplated carrying out a racist revenge attack after someone close to him was raped. The actor shared the story Monday in The Independent during a press tour for his new movie, "Cold Pursuit." He expressed regret for his "horrible" past behavior.Neeson began recounting his personal story after being asked about his film character turning to anger.
He did not reveal who was attacked but said he found out when he returned home from a trip."She handled the situation of the rape in the most extraordinary way," Neeson told the newspaper, which published an audio excerpt. "But my immediate reaction was ... did she know who it was? No. What colour were they? She said it was a black person.

"I went up and down areas with a cosh [crowbar], hoping I'd be approached by somebody. I'm ashamed to say that, and I did it for maybe a week -- hoping some [Neeson gestured air quotes with his fingers, according to the Independent] 'black bastard' would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could kill him."
Neeson said it took him about a week to process what had happened.
"It was horrible, horrible, when I think back, that I did that," he said. "And I've never admitted that, and I'm saying it to a journalist. God forbid.""Holy s***," said Tom Bateman, his co-star, who was reportedly sitting next to Neeson during the interview."It's awful," Neeson continued. "But I did learn a lesson from it, when I eventually thought, 'What the f*** are you doing', you know?"

Who knows anymore. I mean the overall moral that it's stupid to associate an entire group of people with the actions of a few is a good one, especially now that we have politicians attempting to fund multi-billion dollar projects by doing just that, but yeah, weird, extreme story to tell at a junket.

So Bruce Willis no longer has the worst press junket.

"I'm not a racist." Actor Liam Neeson addresses past racist revenge plot in one-on-one with @RobinRoberts this morning on @GMA.

Yeah, I think this sinks the movie and Neeson's career, at least short term.
It also means that we will probably never get anything but canned answers from major actors in the near future as well.

"I am not a racist"...I just plotted to kill a random black person because of a crime a completely different black person committed...
He's done.

I watched the entire interview on GMA today. He said this incident and feelings that he had happened 40+ years ago. He was honest and didn't sugar coat his comments.
However, in our society right now, I just don't get why he would open his mouth and make those kind of comments and not expect horrendous backlash. I get that he's not American and grew up in a racially divided country back in the 60s and 70s. The studio and his agent are probably dumbfounded and today was pretty much damage control.

Doesn't the fact that he (apparently) didn't think there would be blow-back from his comments kinda also point to him being racist?

I don't know, I think I agree with a comment I saw earlier:
"Ah so men need to do the work of dismantling toxic masculinity, but when they talk openly about dark thoughts and raw emotions they've experienced (that they also admit are wrong to act on and express a level of remorse for), they are 'cancelled'."

I don't know what the context of the film is/was but I am assuming he was trying to offer up a contrast/compare type of comment from his own life and that of the character in the film. This is not good for the short-term, though, so we'll see what happens.

The interviewer from The Independent (a small UK newspaper) was asking him if he experienced any kind of feelings of wanting to take revenge since it was a press junket and this movie is about a father wanting to seek revenge for the death of his son. And that's when he shared that story.

Is wanting and plotting to kill a random person because they share the same skin color of someone else who committed a crime "toxic masculinity" though?

I know this happened like 40 years ago, but Liam could probably use a bit of therapy, considering the rumor has been he's been constantly working after his wife's death so he doesn't have to think about it.
For me, I appreciate the honesty but yeah, this is going to be tough for Qui Gon to get out of.

He also said in the interview that his friend is deceased.
The bad press he's gotten from this will definitely hurt this movie. Not that Cold Pursuit was ever going to do gangbusters anyways.

Honestly, the bad press is the only reason I actually knew he had a movie coming out this weekend. And apparently it's a good one.
Anyway, pretty muted response to his comments overall with a surprising number of defenders this time -- but maybe it's just warming up. Alas, it's not like he said "Go do this!" he was very clear that it was wrong and still is.

Stupid of him to have admitted to that. I still like him a lot as an actor but he fucked himself pretty bad here. In today’s climate stuff like this doesn’t just blow over even though he admits shame for it.
