Directed by Mike Newell and based on the best-selling and much loved novel by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, THE GUERNSEY LITERARY AND POTATO PEEL PIE SOCIETY sees Lily James play free-spirited writer Juliet Ashton, who forms a life-changing bond with the delightful and eccentric Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, when she decides to write about the book club they formed during the occupation of Guernsey in WWII.

Watch The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society August 10th on Netflix.

The novel was pretty popular a few years ago.

Re: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (2018) S: Lily James -- Netflix

When I was in the UK this spring, the poster was everywhere, and I like Lily James, so I just caught this on Netflix (never read the book). It was a solid romantic drama, mostly lighthearted but with some sadness. It was odd to see Nazis occupying a village full of British speakers, but I learned that Guernsey is a "self-governing British Crown dependency" (wiki) off the coast of France near Normandy, so it does make sense.
