Re: A.I. Artificial Intelligence or Minority Report
Kind of an odd comparison. While both sci-fi, one is more of an action movie, the other more of a ponderous drama.
I like them both, but if I had to choose I would go to Minority Report because it's more watchable (in that I have to be in a certain mood for AI, but I'll stop and watch Minority Report when I come across it).

AI, even though I find it so heart-wrenching and depressing I can"t imagine watching it again.
I'm missing something about Minority Report. While I think it's fine, I don't understand why Roger Ebert picked it as the year's best movie.

I absolutely loathed AI. It was a massive disappointment to me.
On the other hand, I thought Minority Report was really cool and interesting.

I couldn't vote because I find both movies to be equal in terms of enjoyment. I appreciate both films. They two brilliant films that I feel give a glimpse of our possible future.

Minority Report is quite enjoyable but I think A.I. is the better film. Much more emotional catharsis at the end.

Scott Frank wrote MR and I love his scripts and films but always hated the eyeball clearance part of it. Even in those days of the real world, once you're fired from a top level organization your clearance is revoked - you even get an escort off the premises. No way would Cruise's character be able to get back into the HQ building with the eye.

For re-watching, Minority Report.
The first time, A.I.
Part of the reason I was excited to see A.I. the first time was the because of the marketing campaign for A.I. I have a poster around here somewhere that has my screen name on it (with everyone else).

Re: A.I. Artificial Intelligence or Minority Report
Whatever idea Kubrick had with the premise of AI, Spielberg totally missed the mark or stripped most of Kubrick's POV out of it. I also watched it again earlier this year, I doubt I'll watch it again. I guess since AI and Minority Report are both sci-fi, that's why he's asking which is better? I never saw them in the same genre, but at least Minority Report was a fun, well paced flick. AI is close to the bottom of the Spielberg heap.

Re: A.I. Artificial Intelligence or Minority Report
Minority Report for me, the plot kept moving at a suspenseful level. Plus it has a rewatchable factor.
Liked AI as well but I don't think I can watch the final scenes again. Some think it ended on a positive note with David getting what he wanted, but I found it very somber and depressing, topped off by John Williams' very haunting yet sorrowful piano music.

It is that...which is why I think it is a great film.
I'm with ya there.
BTW, Ebert wasn't infallible.

A.I. was more or less Pinocchio with a more “realistic” ending. I’ve seen it once and felt like that was enough. I don’t hate it, I just didn’t find it fascinating.
The ideas in Minority Report are great sci-fi, and the movie takes itself seriously with those ideas. Perhaps that’s what Ebert liked about it so much.

The mom in A.I. was a bitch for dumping him in the woods.

I'm surprised it's as close as it is, AI was pretty divisive when it came out. I think if it ended under water it would elevate it, but I'd still prefer Minority report overall.
