Who's your favorite video game character?
Samus from Metroid.
maybe the fact that she is a chick (and cute one at that) (perhaps taking a cue from another female badass in Ripley from the Alien and then during it's original release year of 1986, Aliens movies) and it used to be kinda secretive, especially if you got the good ending from the very first NES incarnation (which i never did). she has grown sexier as time went by and so powerful. i always loved playing as this character in all the Metroid games i could (3rd person, 1st person, ball, it's all great).

Bought the first Xbox because of this...….The mystery & persona of "Chief" help make this series... this and GoW remain my two favorite all time best games/series.

I mean Mario is kind of the obvious answer for me given how iconic he is and how synonymous he is with Nintendo and video games in general. The only aspect where he loses some points is that the stories for his games are all about the same thing and we don’t really see him grow as a character really, other than the evolution of his look.
For a character who’s games are more story driven I’d say Nathan Drake. All of the Uncharted games I’ve played (haven’t gotten to the last two PS4 ones as I don’t own the console) have been great and Drake is a cool character. Good stories and action and some backstory added to Drake’s character. He’s essentially a modern day Indiana Jones only in video game format.

As a character, I've always felt Master Chief sucked. You could spin it as "mystery" but there's nothing to his personality except a fondness for his AI companion. I'm constantly amazed at the fondness people have for him. I've liked the games (prior to the last one), but as a character I find him to be a blank slate.

I'm going to ignore the AAA characters. Master Chief, Samus and Lara... all awesome and probably one of them would be my pick.
Instead I'm going to cheat and go with 3 kick ass ladies from non triple A games to equal one AAA-lister. Nariko(Heavenly Sword), Senua(Hellblade) & Jade(Beyond Good & Evil). Also to just give some love to lesser characters.
Kinda. He's pretty tied to Cortanna and it's their relationship that sells it. You could also say the same for Samus. Pretty poorly developed. Ultimate irony, the only game to give a whiff of development to her character was the most derided, Other M.
