The Good Place should be up for Best Comedy series. I also can't believe how many nominations AHS: Cult received. It wasn't that good.

It's nice to see Godless get some recognition.
Ozark should've gotten best drama.

That said, It was an exceptional year for Comedies. Very deep selection pool. Very happy (and unsurprised) by the multiple nominations for GLOW, Ms Maisel and especially Barry.

Not terribly surprised. Brie was very good but her S1 character was super-annoying. I can see why she didnt click with enough Emmy voters. The absence of Mark Maron is more confusing and disappointing.
What is Baldwin doing in that Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category this year? He wasnt an official cast member and this season appeared in less than half the episodes of SNL. He should be considered a guest actor.
Speaking of categories, I know Ms Maisel was probably primarily a Comedy, but the episodes were an hour each. Last time I checked that was how the Emmys delineated Comedies from Dramas episode length. Thats why Orange is the New Black went from Comedy to Drama categories in Season 2. Maybe they changed the rules again?

I'm happy that Betty Gilpin got nominated for Glow.
Leslie Jones getting nominated again for SNL is another WTF Emmy moments. Jones can't act for shit and D'Arcy Carden from The Good Place should have been nominated instead of Jones. I don't get how Emmy voters don't notice that Jones screws up her in lines in most SNL sketches that she's in.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the TV Academy has okayed Mrs. Maisel as a comedy series

How is Game of Thrones nominated if there was no season this year? Maybe I'm confused with the timeline for nominees, but Game of Thrones last aired summer of 2017, and not in the fall/winter/spring schedule of 2017-18? Or was Game of Thrones not nominated last year because it didn't start til the summer?

Eligibility was June 1, 2017 – May 31, 2018 for this year and June 1, 2016 until May 31, 2017 for the previous year.

If nomination actually does break the rule, they will probably rescind his nomination and replace it with someone else. Such a thing happened a few years ago with Peter MacNicol losing his nomination.

An arbitrary exception to an arbitrary rule. That Hollywood Reporter article neglected to mention that the Emmy had established that any hour long scripted continuing TV series would be considered a Drama regardless of content. They make it seem like it was still a judgement call.

It was established because Orange is the New Black cleaned up as a comedy series (12 nominations, 3 wins in 2014).
Basically they gave themselves the right to vet every hour long "Comedy" to ensure it's actually a comedy now.

There are strict requirements to qualify for Guest Actor. Baldwin appeared in over half of the episodes of SNL that 2016-2017 season and therefore was not eligible for a Guest Actor Emmy (which was the same reason Peter McNichol lost his nomination). He was moved to the Supporting Actor category. He should have qualified for Guest Actor this season with far fewer appearances. But there aren't hard and fast rules against qualifying for Supporting Actor, so I assume he is still considered eligible for that award

Happy to see Cameron Britton get a nom for Mindhunter. Best performance in any category, IMO.
Also glad to see Barry get some love. The hour-long block of Silicon Valley and Barry is one of my most-anticipated nights of TV.
But bummed that Sarah Goldberg didn't get a nod as Sally Reed in Barry. She's fantastic in that role and even better than Winkler and Hader, I think. Her performance in "Chapter Seven: Loud, Fast, and Keep Going" is astounding.

Were the tv movies really that bad this past year that Fahrenheit 451 makes the cut? I thought this adaptation was pretty bad.
