$130 was the 4 day estimate. It's still not going to get there, but it might get to $100 million, at least that's what they're saying now.
Also, this is already being discussed in the general Box Office Thread (https://forum.dvdtalk.com/movie-talk...on-thread.html). I didn't think we were doing weekly threads anymore.

It’s not like this place is so jumpin’ that a weekly thread would add to the chaos. I’m all for it.
Of course, I also don’t get bent out of shape for duplicate threads (a decent amount of time apart) either, for the very same reason.

It wound up going the sticky route after many weeks of no/single reply threads.
The only time people seem to really care about B.O. is when it's a huge movie.

Yeah, I've complained about all the sticky threads in general, just because I wasn't a fan of checking the stickied posts instead of seeing new discussion bumped up.

Disney will make their money on Solo, but maybe this will convince them that putting out a Star Wars standalone movie just 5 months after a regular Star Wars movie isn't a good idea...
Maybe.
Lucas had it right putting 3 years in between Star Wars movies. If they put one out every third December, with a standalone movie 17-18 months later that would be ideal. A Star Wars movie every 18 months or so. That would be better than 3 in 17 months!
And maybe they need a Star Wars version of Kevin Feige to keep the productions focused. What they've got now isn't keeping everything on track (they didn't have a set plot framework for the current trilogy, leaving Rian Johnson to wing it and alter some of the plans laid down in TFA, and they've had to fire multiple directors, including the Solo directors during filming).

I never, ever look at sticky threads. Which makes me sound like I hate Spider-Man, but I digress...
I haven't seen Solo yet, but from what I gather online and in real life, they've flooded the market. Last Jedi was only 5 months ago, and while I loved it, I know a vocal minority didn't, and that probably hurt too. But two Star Wars movies five months apart is pushing it, and for those of us who don't go to movies every weekend, we've already had Infinity War and Deadpool 2 in the last few weeks.
I doubt the general moviegoer knows/cares about the whole reshoots / behind the scenes stuff but that probably didn't help either. But I'd argue the main reason is that four Star Wars movies in 2 1/2 years is pushing it. Once upon a time, I'd have been jazzed for a Boba Fett movie but honestly I can't even be bothered now. Star Wars mattered more when it was 'events' but if Disney is going to milk this cow for all it's worth a lot of us will become lactose intolerant.
(And yes, Marvel, Marvel, but I'd argue those movies and the experience is quite different than Star Wars and doesn't play out the same when they have 2-3 movies a year.)

I look at whatever shows up when I hit "new posts". Then if the subject interests me, I click. I generally don't know what forum it is in or whether or not it's stickied, but it really is the way to browse this forum, IMO. Traffic is so light that there is rarely more than a couple pages worth of new posts from the last time I was on.

Disney has ignored it's own marketing strategy.
Pull a movie from distribution for several years to create demand. Reissue movie with shitload of ballyhoo. Sell 10x the number of copies in one week than if the title had been constantly available.

I just looked this film up on IMDB and learned that Adrien Brody is in it. I don't believe I knew who he was in 1996.

I think this will be a money loser because the budget is reported at 250+ million (because they had to reshoot 80% of the movie) and most industry insiders say the marketing for these big budget movies is between 100-200 million dollars. Let's be conservative, and say with production/marketing, it cost them 350 million to make this movie. If it does even 550-600 million dom/foreign (which I honestly don't think it will even do), 1/2 of that still goes to the movie theaters, so that would net them 275-300 million.

It's a shame as it really is a fun movie. I think they should have stuck with Christmas releases for Star Wars movies. The originals defined the summer blockbuster, but the industry has changed and they should have adapted to that.
I think it will recover it's money on the home market, as more people get past the bad buzz and discover it for themselves.

The wave of geek negativity was strong with this one, even on rottentomatoes, the first days Audience Score was in the high 40s, it's since climbed up to 60%. IMDB score is up as well.
It was expected to tank in China but do a bit better in other territories.

Re: Weekend BO 5/25 - Solo so low
It's weird to think of "Star Wars" fatigue after one movie a year (even if this one is out earlier in the year) when we get so many MCU or comic book movies out, but then again people like to keep throwing out superhero fatigue every year too. I think the main "Episodes" for Star Wars will always be the big ones and after Rogue One (a boost after Force Awakens and what I thought were much more interesting trailers) and Solo, these kind of box office results are just going to be more typical for the spin offs.
At least until Disney can do a better job establishing and marketing the spinoffs and side stories.
