FXX’s Archer is an original animated, half-hour comedy that, in its ninth season, centers on the semi-functioning alcoholic seaplane pilot, Sterling Archer, a lush on the lush South Pacific island of Mitimotu in 1939. While the rest of the world is concerned about the impending Second World War, Archer is only concerned with who’s buying his next drink. Along with his trusty co-pilot Pam, Sterling must navigate quicksand, cannibals, super-intelligent monkeys, poison darts, pirates, and did we mention quicksand? Welcome to the mysterious and deadly world of Archer: Danger Island.

I was a huge Archer fan through season seven, but I just don't know what to make of this genre hopping. It would be fun as a one off special in between seasons, but the whole Dreamland thing got really stale.

Agreed - I really didn't like Dreamland, especially for a whole season. Now with this season I see what they're trying to do; I just don't know if I'll like it.
I usually like 'alternate history' type things, and 'familiar characters in new/different settings', but Dreamland just didn't work for me. Hopefully this one will be better.

Regarding that still, above, either Lana has really slow bullets or she has a very fast trigger finger. 
I thought the first episode was pretty funny. Pam was HUGE!

What the hell is going on in that picture?
An OK first episode, not great though. I’m committed and will ride this out. The concept excited me at first, but I just want the old Archer back now.

If mine, it's a woman cosplaying Pam when she was a coke addict. There was a segment where she was all shot up with tranquilizer darts, so that's what would be stuck to her. And she's eating a bag of coke, as Pam did.

Yours ... I got that much (though the Nerf darts Scotch-taped flat to her body threw me for a bit). But what is up with the make-up? I assume the black is supposed to be animated lines, but ... oof. And the overly pale face?

I think the double lines on the chest threw me off ... and the nose ...

Agreed — suck great concepts that have been utterly wasted.
It just felt jumpy/odd that we went from the storyline with the Germans ending in the middle of the ocean to searching for the idol while flying Archer’s plane. Did I just blackout from boredom and miss him (or his mom) getting the map in a previous episode?

I haven't even bothered to keep up with it. got a few episodes queued up recorded but little to no interest after the first two episodes to catch up. Meh. such a shame since the concept seemed like they could play with it but nah.

The concept is neat, and taking chances like this would pay off handsomely if done right. Both Danger Island and Dreamland just feel like fan fiction. The characters are all just going through the motions. There's none of the smart wit that made the show so much fun to watch. There's no reason to care about any of this.

Anybody still watching? I’ve got tonight’s episode on now and I can’t manage to keep my attention on it.
I think Jason nailed it — there is virtually NO humor and the characters have mostly been stripped of anything that made them who they were.

I quit a while ago because it was like Sealab 2021 when they showed an episode that wasn't funny except they stayed with that concept.
