How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019)

‘How to Train Your Dragon 3’ Title Revealed (EXCLUSIVE)
By Brent Lang @BrentALang

The third film in the “How to Train Your Dragon” franchise has been christened.

In advance of a special sneak peek of the film at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival, DreamWorks Animation has announced that part three will be entitled “How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.” The film is billed as the series’ culmination and will hit theaters in 2019. The voice cast includes Jay Baruchel, Cate Blanchett, Gerard Butler, and Craig Ferguson.

Attendees to the festival will learn more about the making of the film as part of an extended presentation on DreamWorks Animation’s films and the work of “How to Train Your Dragon” director Dean DeBlois. The presentation will take place on June 14 in the festival’s main venue, the Bonlieu Theater.

“As well as being a major artist, Dean DeBlois is a longtime friend of Annecy,” Marcel Jean, artistic director of the Annecy Film Festival, said in a statement. “We are excited to welcome him this year and present his work in a context that will emphasize his great talent. ‘The How to Train Your Dragon’ franchise is closely linked to our festival and this is why we are eager to offer our audience the chance to preview footage from the film.”

Gerard Butler? That should be interesting considering what happened in the last movie.

I love watching this series with my kids. To me it's one of the more entertaining animated film series outside of Disney stuff.

Re: How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019)

The first one is probably my all-time favorite cgi animated movie. The second drops in quality a little for me but is still pretty damn entertaining. I’m totally on board for number 3!

I doubt T.J. Miller will get a call back.

Edit: checking IMDB shows otherwise. I wonder if they’ll end up dropping him.

I was curious about that too. Maybe flashbacks? Maybe they let him voice a new character?

Loved the first one. The second one was pretty good...

Tried watching the tv series with my daughter but ended up never finishing it. Managed to watch like 3 or 4 seasons of the 7 or 8 seasons they made. Wonder if they somehow tie up the gap between the 2nd and 3rd movies like the first couple seasons did with the 1st and 2nd movies.

Apparently "The Hidden World" is Pandora from Avatar.

I would have made the Dragon fall for another Boy Dragon.

HyTYD 3: Dragon finds dragon, boy loses dragon (and probably mother for good measure, but finally gets girl)

Everybody loses their dragon, but it all ends on a happy moral high note that it's all in the dragons best interest as they will survive without the interference of mankind. HtTYD 3 will probably vile outsider human antagonists hunting dragons for trophies and sport to emphasize this.

We get a denouement that explains why we see no dragons today. Dragons are endangered and to survive they have gone to live in... The Hidden World.

I love the first movie, the second was good but I didn't like losing Hiccup's father. Definitely down for this.

I haven't seen in in awhile, but at the time I remember liking HTTYD2 more. It felt more mature. Also HUGE props to Dreamworks for aging their characters and having them grow. That is damn cool for an animated series.

Yeah, I love this series and I loved everything about How2 except what they did to his Father. Though it was a more mature installment, that seemed unnecessarily cruel.

Toothless trying to hit on the girl dragon cracks me up.

Could do without another evil guy trying to kill dragons, but we'll see how that goes.

^ That clip makes zero sense considering his father’s attitude throughout most of the first movie.

Also, is it me or does a bearded Hiccup look like Jake Gyllenhaal?

Fandango is sponsoring an Early Access screening on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 3 p.m. ET. I just picked up tickets for the wife and me.

You'll have to change the zip code to see screenings in your area.

Re: How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019)

Bought tickets for a friend & I to catch one of the Early Screenings about an hour away.

I checked many of the theaters within a 50-mile radius of my town and many of the Screenings are sold out or close to being (1-2 seats left)!
