The Darkest Minds (2018, D: Nelson) S: Amandla Stenberg
The Darkest Minds, which is based on the novel of the same name from Alexandra Bracken (which is the first of four books).
When teens mysteriously develop powerful new abilities, they are declared a threat by the government and detained. Sixteen-year-old Ruby, one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes her camp and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven. Soon this newfound family realizes that, in a world in which the adults in power have betrayed them, running is not enough and they must wage a resistance, using their collective power to take back control of their future.

So, Fox pushes back two actual X-Men movies this year until next, but we'll still get X-Men-light.

Looks watchable, I suppose -- and looks like Yuh-Nelson might make a decent transition from animation to live action -- but I was kinda hoping this whole spate of "you're the chosen one and no one understands you" YA pap had finally run its course, but I see there are at least three novels and a book of "in-between" stories in this series, so . . .

I've seen that first trailer like seven times in the past few months and still couldn't remember the movie title. Just as generic as it gets. It keeps popping up and I think "Oh yeah, that generic dystopian teen X-Men ripoff again".

Saw this on sunday night. I was better than I thought it was going to be. I actually enjoyed it more than the new Mission Impossible movie I saw the day before. It wasnt a good movie but I enjoyed the characters and was curious where it was going.
