John Krasinski always seemed like box office poison for movies he headlines, but this may turn that around.

He has little screen charisma.
However, he apparently has something going for him, considering he landed Emily Blunt (the basturd ).

Since this is the spoiler thread: the final cocking the shotgun with the smile was pretty corny. Glad they figured it out though.

Seeing tonight. Review in the morning. I normally don’t do horror, but the premise intrigues me.

I'm looking to going tonight but I use MoviePass, and it looks like most of the theatres are almost full! I can't recall that happening for anything outside of a major blockbuster in a while.

I think this will definitely do better at the BO than the estimates.

Pretty good. I didn't find it scary or anything. Nobody was freaking out in the theatre.

The opening scene surprised me.

You could see a lot of thought went into things.

Re: A Quiet Place (Krasinski, 2018) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Just got back from it and it was 2/3rds full. It got a great reaction and the audience definitely behaved themselves. There's minimal dialogue and long stretches of silence that I thought folks would start getting restless. Nope. It was great. The film rocked, too.

The sound design was great and the creature design was very creepy. I do think its drawback is that there's no explanation as to why these things exist. It's gonna make money and we'll see if they decide on a sequel. I would not mind one.

Re: A Quiet Place (Krasinski, 2018) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

From my review page Orbi-Wan Goes To The Movies:

A Quiet Place (PG-13) - Silence is golden, and absolutely necessary for survival, in this well-produced and directed tale of nearly unbearable suspense

Orbi-Wan normally does not do horror, but the premise of “A Quiet Place”, directed by and starring John Krasinski (The Office, 13 Hours, the upcoming Jack Ryan series on Amazon), was too intriguing to pass up. In the near future, following some sort of apocalyptic incident, a family struggles to survive in silence as creatures with super-powered hearing hunt the few humans still left alive. The father (Krasinski) and mother (the director’s real-life wife Emily Blunt) teach their children the skills needed to live in a world of silence.

The film opens with the tragic death of their youngest (shown in the trailers). Fast forwarding nearly a year later, the oldest child, their deaf daughter (Millicent Simmonds) blames herself for her brother’s death. The middle son (Noah Jupe) is so scared of their predicament that he’s reluctant to learn the skills needed to survive. On top of everything else, Mom is within days of delivering a new baby, which further complicates their efforts to live in complete silence. Fortunately, Mom, Dad, and the kids are inventive, which come into play as the film unfolds.

That’s all about the story you need to know going into “A Quiet Place”. Krasinski’s direction is firm, competent and tight, and the audience definitely feels the constant threat that the family onscreen is living through. This is no cheap half-baked horror show - this is as well-made a frightfest as I have ever scene, and it earns every scare and jump. The monsters, which look like a cross between the Cloverfield creature and “Stranger Things” demogorgon, are scary and effective, and we eventually get to meet them up close and personal.

“A Quiet Place” is a thrill ride, with a terrific sound design, mounting dread throughout, and a good payoff. Could there be a sequel? Who knows? There’s enough left unexplained about the creatures that it’s definitely a possibility. I am giving “A Quiet Place” 4 out of 5 lightsabers.

NOTES FOR PARENTS - A Quiet Place is rated PG-13 for horror-related violence, suspense, and constant tension and dread. There is little dialogue, mainly in ASL, and no profanity of any sort. A few people, including a child, are killed by blind alien-type creatures attracted by the slightest sound. Children and their parents are shown in continual peril. Gore is more implied than shown. Blood is shown when a character steps on a nail, and during a childbirth scene.

MID AND END-CREDIT SCENES: There are no extra scenes once the credits begin.

Re: A Quiet Place (Krasinski, 2018) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Horror-thriller “A Quiet Place” has opened with an impressive $4.3 million at 2,740 North American locations in Thursday night preview showings, while “Blockers” took in $1.5 million at 2,650 sites in previews.

Paramount Pictures’ “A Quiet Place,” starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, has been forecasted to debut with as much as $30 million from 3,508 locations. The film, which opened at South by Southwest to rave reviews, currently boasts a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
I think it will make more than $30mil for sure.

Saw it. Loved it. A few minor gripes but overall some of the most intense horror in years - and it was earned; few jump scares.

Great creature design. Reminded me of Demogorgon meets a Starship Troopers bug.

They came from outer space.
They were grown in a government lab.

They used to be tiny insects but evolved after being exposed to nuclear waste.

It doesn't matter. Glad this film had the balls to drop viewers in in media res and allow their minds to fill in the missing pieces. The WHY isn't important; it's how you deal with it. This is why so much horror lacks mystery these days: audiences need to know something about everything.

I'll take a sequel as long as Kosinski comes back as director and his writers. And a hardened Emily Blunt.

Krasinski made this movie (his first), not Kosinski - who has more important things going on.

This movie was so quiet in places that you could hear parts of the movie next door.

Pretty good movie. I was transfixed to the screen, especially in the last act. Great acting all around, especially the real-life deaf actress that plays the daughter. I liked the lack of exposition.
