In his first special in seven years, Ricky Gervais slings his trademark snark at celebrity, mortality and a society that takes everything personally.
Humanity? Eh, not a big fan. The brand new stand-up special by Ricky Gervais premieres March 13th on Netflix.

Gervais was huge at one point - what happened? Did he step away on his own accord or did he has his removal from popularity thrust upon him (ahem*Dane Cook*ahem)?

Are you saying that because you dont see him on tv and in movies that he isn't successful?
Looks like he's been touring his standup the last couple of years.

The last half of this special had me in stitches. Good stuff.

And he also did two feature films. David Brent: Life on the Road, (which I was a bit disappointed with) and Special Correspondents.

At nearly 80 minutes, it's too long, but this is really fucking good, especially if you like Gervais' delivery/persona in general.
He spends too long on some subjects/stories, but this is so fucking good. He's up with there with the stand-up comic greats working today, IMO.
Chris Rock's latest special was hit-or-miss, and it appears he took too much time off. Dave Chappelle's two new specials, the first of which was pretty good, and the small club show was not.
Chappelle's 2015 and 2016 shows in the can that he sold to Netlix for 20 mil a piece were much better than his latest.

I thought it was good, not great. Ricky sure does like to brag about his wealth in this special. He's best as an insult comic (like all the best British comedians seem to be). His quips and comebacks are sharp. He should always be the host of those Comedy Central roasts, that's perfect for him.
