I would love to be a fly on the wall during these show pitches to the network.

It sounds like something you would hear about on an episode of Episodes.

For a show that is basically a “Throw Castle and The Mentalist in a blender” concept, we actually liked it a lot. There were some bits of chemistry, and the story held our attention.
I also liked the way they portrayed the magic. It was fun, something you don’t see in a lot of series these days.

Yeah it was a fun and breezy 1 hour.
Definitely has a Castle and The Mentalist vibe.
I remembered the female lead FBI agent from the Baywatch movie last summer.
Seems like it did decently following American Idol on Sunday.

Proof I do not always read everything in the first post...but yeah, what I put in a spoiler tag does seem to clarify what the scandal is.

Sounds decent. The producing pedigree definitely has me piqued.
Actually it sounds like a direct ripoff of White Collar. .

How so? The premise is that Cameron Black is trying to prove his brother's innocence by working with the FBI. He isn't a convicted criminal under house arrest, forced to work on cases to avoid going back to prison.

Um, no, not really. As I alluded to earlier, the parallels between the premise of this show and that of The Mentalist are much more accurate, but the characters and writing style are much more similar to Castle.

The first episode wasn't terrible. The magicians "twist" was right out of The Prestige (excellent movie) but set up his work with the FBI. I'll stick around for now.

I actually enjoyed the pilot a lot and the characters mesh. This is a light network procedural with the magic tricks sprucing up the standard formula. My real worry is that the magic tricks get lamer and lamer as writers struggle to come up with new ones each week for a full season.
I did get a "Now You See Me" vibe, if you have seen those magician movies.

Forgot to record this but we checked out the pilot on demand. Interesting concept and twist at the beginning. Characters are likable enough too. Would have liked more backstory from the female lead.
As others said, it definitely has a Castle vibe, although not based on the two main characters. I’m not getting a will they won’t they vibe, nor am I rooting for it. Main guy seems to have more chemistry with the person on the phone.
Anyway, we’ll probably keep checking it out as other shows seem to be slowing down.
