I wonder if the Lenora Crichlow curse will hit this show.

I would love to be a fly on the wall during these show pitches to the network.

What? You mean a Magician procedural isn't fresh enough?

I recorded this last night, but haven't had the chance to view it yet. Too much on Sunday including the 2 hours of American Idol.

It sounds like something you would hear about on an episode of Episodes.

It was decent enough.

He’s no Bill Bixby though.

For a show that is basically a “Throw Castle and The Mentalist in a blender” concept, we actually liked it a lot. There were some bits of chemistry, and the story held our attention.

I also liked the way they portrayed the magic. It was fun, something you don’t see in a lot of series these days.

This was a pleasant surprise, I figured that I had the space on my tivo so why not even though for some reason I tend not to stick with Network TV shows that air at 10 pm on a Sunday (but my tivo is filled with basic/pay cable shows from the Sunday 8-11 pm time frame). I also thought it was fun and moved at a steady pace so even if it does not last a full season I have no issues watching the show as long as it airs.

Yeah it was a fun and breezy 1 hour.

Definitely has a Castle and The Mentalist vibe.

I remembered the female lead FBI agent from the Baywatch movie last summer.

Seems like it did decently following American Idol on Sunday.

So I don't have to bother, can someone please spoiler for me what the "scandal" is here?

???. I recorded the show not really knowing anything at all about it other than it was a new show that popped up on the schedule and I tend to try and give new networks shows a watch. I was playing around around a bit on my iPad while watching so maybe I missed something important on the show talking about a scandalous situation?

Possible spoiler:

Spoiler:
The only thing I can remotely think of is that the lead character is revealed to have a twin who ends up in jail and the reveal of the twin to the public at large also ruins the career the main character built up for himself in Vegas. Heck, if you went to IMDB it spoils that the lead plays two characters, but maybe this is the scandal part of the show.

Proof I do not always read everything in the first post...but yeah, what I put in a spoiler tag does seem to clarify what the scandal is.

Sounds decent. The producing pedigree definitely has me piqued.

Actually it sounds like a direct ripoff of White Collar. .

How so? The premise is that Cameron Black is trying to prove his brother's innocence by working with the FBI. He isn't a convicted criminal under house arrest, forced to work on cases to avoid going back to prison.

Um, no, not really. As I alluded to earlier, the parallels between the premise of this show and that of The Mentalist are much more accurate, but the characters and writing style are much more similar to Castle.

That's fine and dandy. Going off the description of the show, which I was(haven't watched yet) it sounds like WC.

The first episode wasn't terrible. The magicians "twist" was right out of The Prestige (excellent movie) but set up his work with the FBI. I'll stick around for now.

Re: Deception (ABC) -- From EP Greg Berlanti & Chris Fedak -- 3/11/18

I actually enjoyed the pilot a lot and the characters mesh. This is a light network procedural with the magic tricks sprucing up the standard formula. My real worry is that the magic tricks get lamer and lamer as writers struggle to come up with new ones each week for a full season.

I did get a "Now You See Me" vibe, if you have seen those magician movies.

Re: Deception (ABC) -- From EP Greg Berlanti & Chris Fedak -- 3/11/18

Forgot to record this but we checked out the pilot on demand. Interesting concept and twist at the beginning. Characters are likable enough too. Would have liked more backstory from the female lead.

As others said, it definitely has a Castle vibe, although not based on the two main characters. I’m not getting a will they won’t they vibe, nor am I rooting for it. Main guy seems to have more chemistry with the person on the phone.

Anyway, we’ll probably keep checking it out as other shows seem to be slowing down.
