As the nation approaches the 25th anniversary of the federal siege on David Koresh's Branch Davidian compound, Paramount Network will present the six-part television event "Waco" premiering Wednesday, January 24 at 10 pm, ET/PT. Featuring an all-star cast including Michael Shannon, Taylor Kitsch, Andrea Riseborough, John Leguizamo, Melissa Benoist, Paul Sparks, Shea Whigham, Rory Culkin, Julia Garner and Camryn Manheim, Paramount Network's "Waco" chronicles this true story told from perspectives of those who were intimately involved. In February 1993, the eyes of the world converged on Mount Carmel, a small religious community located just outside Waco, TX. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) had just conducted a massive raid on David Koresh and his followers, known as the Branch Davidians. After what became the longest gun battle in U.S. law enforcement history, four ATF agents and six civilians were dead and dozens more were wounded. A 51-day standoff ensued, and the conflict ended after an FBI assault led to a fire that engulfed Mount Carmel, killing 76 men, women, and children. What precipitated the ATF raid, and what transpired over the ensuing standoff, remains one of the most misunderstood stories in American history. Based on two biographies, Waco: A Survivor's Story, by Branch Davidian David Thibodeau, one of the nine survivors of the final fire on April 19, 1993, and Stalling for Time: My Life as an FBI Hostage Negotiator, written by the FBI's Head of Crisis Negotiation Unit Gary Noesner, the six-part scripted television series "Waco" will forever change the way the dramatic siege will be viewed.

Anyone with even a small interest in this should also watch the documentary "Waco: The Rules of Engagement". Fascinating and tragic.

Apparently, Supergirl was banging Tim Riggins while filming this. Poor Mon-El. Texas Forever!

So we got 3 actors from Boardwalk Empire.
Andrea Riseborough looks different in everything I see her in.
This is some of the better acting I’ve seen from Kitsch.

Interesting 1st hour. I thought Kitsch was pretty good playing Koresh. 1st episode was mostly set-up, especially with Shannon's character.
Just an update on the OP, Harvey Weinstein was dropped as EP of this series back in October.

The Weinstein company was also dropped as the production company behind it even though they were involved.

I will check it out but it would have been the shit if Shannon played Koresh which I thought at first.
Maybe he does not want to be typecast as a villain in every movie or TV show.

I didn't pay attention to the opening credits, but when her character popped on screen I knew I had seen her in other stuff. I couldn't think of her name right away.

Is this the first time Rory Culkin has gotten work since 2004?

Everybody dropped out after the pilot?
It was so long ago so I forgot if the real life character played by Leguizamo defected and became a part of the cult.
No spoilers!

I've enjoyed the mini-series so far. Every character has been convincing in the plot and nothing really sticks out as fabricated for entertainment, which is a real positive.

Kitch has been great. This is better than I thought it would be. I guess the unabomber on Discovery kicked off these type of mini-series. I couldn't get into the Mendez Bothers on NBC.

The one drawback is Kitschs hair.
I don't think the real Koresh had hair that looked that ridiculous.

The ATF siege of the compound was some of the most riveting television I've seen in the past year. The cast members are all bringing their 'A' games for this mini-series.
I read somewhere that one of the surviving Branch Davidians that has seen Waco says it's been mostly realistic about what happened inside the compound.

I've been watching and like it, but thought I'd just end up talking to myself so I haven't posted much. Good series, well acted.

I have been in a Waco loop since this show started, watching a bunch of documentaries and reading up on it. The series is good, but they are way underplaying just how evil Koresh was. I mean he was raping 10 year olds with their parent's consent and beating other children til they bled.
