Future of Blue Sky Animation Studios unsure following Fox sale to Disney

I've really liked their roster of films for the most part, hope Disney finds the means to keep them going and not fold them into their animation studio or into Pixar or at least finds a buyer for them.

Waiting for the eventual Ice Age/Frozen mashup.

Dammit, don't give them any ideas (not that they probably didn't already think about it, lol)

The Peanuts movie and the first Ice Age were probably the only things I really liked from Blue Sky. They're output seems fairly erratic, but I'd hate to see a different animation studio go away and only have Disney/Pixar around doing high end larger budget stuff.

The Peanuts Movie was fantastic. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen any of their other film though. I’ve seen bits and pieces of some of the Ice Age movies but haven’t watched them all the way.

Rio was great and I think their best film. Really like Peanuts. Much better than it had any right being. Haven't seen Ferdinand yet but reviews seem good.

I agree I'd hate for them to fold and be left with Disney and dreamworks. Although Disney/Pixar had done so much better than their competitors in recent years it almost doesn't matter.

The Peanuts Movie was sheer quality by the standards of today's Hollywood. The rest of their output seems fairly hit or miss, though I tended to like them better than DreamWorks animation.

Peanuts was the only thing I've seen.

Doesn't really seem like a loss.

And that article is complete speculation. Nothing is known how the acquisition will go down. All of 21st Century and subsidiaries could become a banner under the Disney Brand.

Future of Blue Sky Studios in question after Disney/Fox merger

I've enjoyed their movies, from Ice Age and Robots up to their current ones - hope Disney decides to keep them around...

I don't see Disney keeping them around, sadly.

I would be shocked if they ever made another film after whatever is already in the pipeline, unless Disney decides to sell them off.

As mentioned Peanuts is their crowning achievement but the first few Ice Age flicks were fun.

Sad to see one company own so much of Hollywood.

It's not like Disney is cranking out a ton of quality animated movies. Yes, they have hits, but what harm would there be to have other animated titles coming out and making bank on them? It seems like Disney is more focused now on live action and not many animated titles.

Within about a year they've released Coco, Incredibles 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet, and Toy Story 4. It'd say that's quite a busy release schedule.

In the final days of Blue Sky Studios, a small team of artists came together to do one final shot. This shot is a farewell, a send-off on our own terms.

I had some moderate fun watching the Ice Age movies, and Scrat was always a funny character, I'm glad to see him get a nice simple ending.

Re: Future of Blue Sky Animation Studios unsure following Fox sale to Disney

I guess the recent Ice Age movie they released on Disney+ was already in works before the merger? So they are gone for good. That's really sad. I guess all their IP goes to Disney? So that's pretty much a guarantee we won't see any of them again. I wonder what happens with the rights to Peanuts? Do movie rights go to Disney? Does Apple have any movie rights to the Peanuts characters? I guess it depends on what their movie deal was with Blue Sky.

Re: Future of Blue Sky Animation Studios unsure following Fox sale to Disney

The Adventures of Buck Wild was originally planned as a television series with Blue Sky working on it. Hence most of the original cast not returning, Simon Pegg being the exception. Fox just did not give this a huge budget. When Disney took over Fox and shut down Blue Sky, Disney did not want the project to end. Obviously it is a franchise Disney can profit from.

So Adventures of Buck Wild was retooled as a movie for Disney+. Disney, however, did not want to do the animation so they outsourced it to Bardel Entertainment who copied Blue Sky’s work as best as possible. The TV series and low budget roots though kept the film’s look below the quality of the previous films and even the television specials.
