Happy! (SyFy) -- S: Christopher Meloni, Patton Oswalt -- Series Thread -- 12/6/17
Based on New York Times best-selling author Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson's graphic novel of the same name, HAPPY! follows Nick Sax (Christopher Meloni, "Law & Order: SVU") - an intoxicated, corrupt ex-cop turned hit man - who is adrift in a world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal. After a hit gone wrong, his inebriated life is forever changed by a tiny, relentlessly positive, imaginary blue winged horse named "Happy" (Patton Oswalt). Executive producers Morrison ("Batman," "The Invisibles") and Brian Taylor ("Crank," "Gamer") co-wrote the pilot teleplay. Neal Moritz, Pavun Shetty and Toby Jaffe of Original Film ("The Fast and the Furious" franchise), Meloni and showrunner Patrick Macmanus will also executive produce. Taylor directed the pilot.
Starring: Christopher Meloni, Patton Oswalt, Lili Mirojnick, Ritchie Coster, Medina Senghorn, Patrick Fischler

This is based on a comic/graphic novel series.

This is Grant Morrison the comic book writer, for those unaware. The pilot has his touches all over it and definitely feels like one of his more adventurous graphic novels.

Getting some good comments at Rotten Tomatoes (75% out of 28 reviews).
Checking imdb ... this is the first adaptation of original work (not counting direct-to-video versions of his Batman and Superman stories) by Grant Morrison, right? I remember being a fan of his Vertigo stuff from the 80s and 90s (like Animal Man, Doom Patrol, and Invisibles).

This was good. Scatterbrained for sure but really fun. I'll be back next week.

I've been enjoying the season, it's just the right amount of f'd up.
All of the episodes on Syfy have been airing with "limited commercial interruptions," and doesn't even run a full hour, so it's good to see it's still raking in enough to be renewed.

The season finale was amazing. Not as over the top as usual but damn, Nick proves a father's love is stronger than any beartraps and heart attacks. I can't wait for season 2.

Just binged through this - and absolutely loved it.
SyFy product has always been hit or miss (mostly miss) but this was a spot-on balance of perverse, violent, funny, and - during the finale - almost fucking touching.

A question, did most of y'all binge this? I found myself struggling to watch it week to week so I ended up letting the whole series build up on my tivo. I then watched the first ep, walked away from the show for a while, built up the energy to finish up the second episode and then once again I walked away for a bit and came back to watch eps 3 and 4.
Two to three weeks back I said to myself that I need to power through as it is only 8 episodes and I only have 4 to go (I was enjoying but the show was a bit of a grind to get through) and started watching early on a Saturday morning and lo and behold I happily watched to completion.
I am glad I did because as crazy as the show could be as it has already been pointed out it was also incredibly touching especially at the end. It did strike me as a show that was easier to get through if you carved out the time to binge it.
I do like that I am now ready for season 2.

I’m watching this on Netflix and enjoying it. It’s bonkers and violent. Reminds me of the Crank movies.

I watched on Netflix too and happy to see this back, but I have to ask if it is worth waiting for Netflix to catch the second season. This seems like it was a hard R and much of the content would be edited for SyFy broadcast, so is the SyFy airing the same as the Netflix or is it edited?

Blood Drive aired uncut except for nudity which may have been how it was intended. Language wasn’t edited.

According to the Blood Drive producers, SyFy let them have it all but they chose to censor the nudity on their own. They even made it a gag with how big the could make the black box.

Season 2 is on Netflix. It feels like a step up so far. Like the jump up in quality that happens with a good show.

I was just looking around the credits. Not surprised this is partially directed by one of the Crank directors. Not familiar with the other two main talents.
I really enjoy the fantasy. This is a pretty special show.
The child endangerment level is gleefully high.
The whole production is theatrical quality.
Not too much discussion in here. You guys should give it a try. Going right to season two wouldn’t be too hard. And like most good shows, season one was kinda unpolished but now it hit its stride.
