Altered Carbon (Netflix) S: Kinnaman, Purefoy, Lachman -- Season 1 Thread -- 2/2/18

Has a Blade Runner-esque vibe to it...

Trailer is NSFW:

This might make me miss Sense8 a little less.

Didn't grab me but with no football in February I could give it a shot.

I read the book back when it came out in the early 2000's, I enjoyed it (and its sequels as well). Looking forward to checking this out.

Reportedly already been renewed for a 2nd season. That's always a good sign.

The first book was excellent, but unrelentingly bleak and nihilistic. I'm still chillingly disturbed while recalling the torture sequence. Ugh.

That said, I'll be there day one.

Netflix Exclusive: Altered Carbon With Creator, Stars, On Naked Shoots, Whitewashing, And More

Lachman explains how the famous Reileen-Ortega faceoff came to happen in the show, relating that the logistics for that one scene was “one of the more complicated things they did on the show”.

“There are so many body doubles who have to look like Rei(leen), then there’s the nudity where I’m completely naked. I’m completely naked, from head to toe, and you see everything,” she reiterates with a laugh, “So when you’re fighting naked with a weapon, and there are pieces of glass which aren’t glass but silicon pieces that turn in sand when they break, it’s very slippery; the entire floor feels like you’re walking on ice…and there are like eight other girls lying naked on the floor, with tons of men on that day –”

“Lucky men”, Higareda cuts in unabashedly, and the tongue-in-cheek statement came so abruptly that everyone started bursting into loud guffaws. Letting her playful side take the reins, the actress continues to recount her tale of how she’d texted one of her male friends, “you wish you’d been here tonight”, and the previous bouts of laughter instantly became full-blown hilarity.

For all of the laughs, Lachman admits that there was an initial psychological hindrance on her part to get over the nudity, and credits the progress to her on-screen character, who “would have no problems doing that”.
Oh my stars and garters...

I've had a crush on her since Dollhouse.

I thought this was a movie, not a series. Curious what kind of budget it's rocking.

Without googling my understanding is that this is one of those budget buster shows even for Netflix who have shown that they are not afraid to spend beaucoup bucks on their exclusive content. From the trailer it looks like it has enough going for it to get a good sampling when it is released but I assume it will need to put up Stranger Things/Bright numbers to get a second season.

Rumored to be $7 million per episode, but Netflix won't confirm

And it's a 10 episode show, so 7 million is actually 70 million -- Netflix is definitely getting its money's worth. I'm looking forward to it. One more week!

$70m is cheap compared to some of their other programs.

re: Altered Carbon (Netflix) S: Kinnaman, Purefoy, Lachman -- Season 1 Thread -- 2/2/18

Hmmm...70m is not peanuts but for some reason I though it was more per episode. I love how a 70m budget is considered to be almost a bargain for Netflix post The Get Down.

I was going to watch, but I will admit that the trailer makes it more likely that I will actually watch at least the first ep or two the weekend it comes out vs dragging my feet like I have done with Stranger Things S2 (have not even watched ep 1 of Season 2). I loved the first season of Stranger Things, but Netflix comes out so fast and furious with content I want to watch that between Netflix, Hulu, and network/cable tv it is sometimes a surprise to me what I let fall to the bottom of the watch promptly after released list.

Yeah, the downside to the Netflix "binge" culture is I feel like I need to clear off 8 - 12 hours to watch all of something or I've failed.

Yeah...I am falling behind on Dark (only seen the first ep) because this site convinced me to check it out but before I could watch ep 2 something got in the way and I have not revisited the show for several weeks now. I know I could watch 1 ep a week to catch up on many Netflix shows but for some reason I just prefer to wait until I have time to watch multiple eps at once or the show remains unwatched for quite some time.

Of course this means that I am lucky to clear a season of 1 or 2 Netflix originals off my list in any given month.

I still think that Altered Carbon will get a binge from me fairly promptly after it is released, and I will not be reporting back in 6 months that I have only watched one episode.

Having read the books, I am looking forward to seeing how this compares to them. I did like the trailer, it looked similar to the books.

I don't get why everybody thinks Netflix is going for Game of Thrones with every single show.
