NBCUniversal shutting down Chiller
This according to CordCutterNews.com.
I used to watch it alittle bit and would always check their schedule but nothing outstanding ever came up.
The only movie off hand that I can think of that Chiller produced that was worth watching was Dead Souls.
The UK's Horror Channel has now become my second favorite horror channel next to SyFy Channel.

Here's the original source for the story.
No surprise here.
The network was in SD only for most providers and who's going to watch it's movies, which is edited for TV?
Story also said it was having trouble getting providers to carry it.

I had a feeling something was up when the second season of the "Chiller original" show Slasher just went straight to Netflix with no explanation or announcement.

Anyone else STILL missing MONSTERS HD?
The only good thing I ever saw on Chiller was the doc, The American Scream. Here’s hoping for a better replacement.

I liked Chiller in the early days when they aired Twin Peaks, and several short lived horror shows like American Gothic and Point Pleasant.

They were showing the new Outer Limits episodes, albeit the censored versions. I noticed something was up when more and more horror movies that once played on Chiller were showing up on Syfy.
I'm guessing most cable systems didn't want to pick up a horror channel playing edited movies most of the time. They were showing a lot of indie horror from the past decade that I don't think many other channels would air.

I enjoyed Chiller when it was airing shows like Freddy's Nightmares(that was the first time I was ever able to see it) Tales from the Crypt, Tales from the Darkside and all those other niche shows.
Unfortunately the fact that the movies were edited and not in HD hurt it, and trying to move away from what made it notable hurt it as well. Looks like any future horror channel will have to go streaming to survive.

I always think it's funny that people think that prior to high definition video's availability in the home, that movies were shot on VHS tape or something.
But Chiller...yuck. I was stoked when this channel was announced. Then tried to watch it. SD is bad enough, but it's 4x3 SD showing mostly widescreen content. So you either watch with a huge black box around the picture or blow up the already fuzzy picture to fit the screen. Toss in the edited content, commercials, and screen clutter and it really was unwatchable.

I just find it laughable when people insist on HD when so much of viewing history and current viewing is only available in SD.

Re: NBCUniversal shutting down Chiller
Basically everything before 'All in the Family' was shot on film, which can be mastered in HD. Even after 'All in the Family' many (perhaps most) shows were still shot on film (Cheers as an example) and are essentially HD source material. Virtually all movies ever made were shot on film. Also, SD content broadcast on an HD carrier is superior to that shown on SD. SD source material on an SD broadcast is a photocopy of a photocopy and is always inferior. Only a small fraction of everything ever produced is only available in SD source material, and even then still benefits from being broadcast on HD. Some people confuse 4x3 with SD, but they are not at all the same thing. Anyway, that's why I never bother with SD broadcasts/channels.
