22 episode 9th season
It's been renewed through season 10. Most believe that season 10 will be the last season.
Almost gave up on this last season. Watched half the season and it fell off my viewing schedule.
But after the 2 season renewal and what seems like an end point and dedicating 8 years on this, I binged the remaining episodes of season 8 and I'm in until the end.

Kind of a meh premiere.
Had a few cute moments, but not a lot of laughs....but I did chuckle when Cam got his gown ripped off by the boat and then we saw his pixelated naked body.
When the eclipse happened, I actually thought that something was wrong with my TV or the broadcast for a moment.

Great first episode. Manny is still very creepy though. His voice keeps getting deeper but he's just a bigger version of his young fat self.

Cam dressed up like Marlon Brando from "Island of Dr. Moreau" was funny, but the rest of it was pretty lame.

I dunno, Phil still delivers. Him and Claire realizing they were the old couple on the brochure was pretty funny. I also got a chuckle out of the elapsed time after each of Claire's jumps. It kept getting longer.

But it really was a blah episode. They're really dragging this show to the finish line.
As soon as the kids left on the duck boat and Alex said she'd come back for Ben, I knew the episode would end with them forgetting about him. Things have gotten too predictable with this show.

I laughed out loud at the “you fools!” college student every time Claire and Phil used the air tunnel

Second episode was much better than the first. The angel and devil thing was great. Vanessa Williams definitely showing her age, I used to have a huge crush on her.

An ok episode.
Vergara let her real very toned-down accent slip out a few times in the episode.
A Steely Dan reference poking fun at their age... obviously shot before Becker died.
The death toll is already high for guests on this show, and now even referencing them kills them.

Holy crap this show doesn't even try to be subtle with their product endorsements.
They've pushed Apple products many times, then Google Home last season and now they went out of their way to show the Google Pixel 2 phone for about 15 seconds and even zoomed in on it.

Never been a Coldplay fan, but the Chris Martin cameo was fun. CM putting ice on Phil's man bits was hilarious. Terry Bradshaw was also pretty fun. Interesting Billy Crystal cameo, a bit too brief.
Cam & Mitchell continue to have the most awkward, annoying and humorless plots. Phil and the Dunphey's still deliver.
Vergara's wardrobe person continues to deliver as well.
Google Mini got a shout out in the Thanksgiving episode.

The show has really run out of storylines and is offering very few chuckles even.
The kids are getting bumped out of the show. I think Alex had a line last week and is absent this week, Haley had one line and Luke was in the middle of the opening scene and didn't say a word.

The writers really are spinning their wheels with all the kids. Haley looks like a typical LA party girl trying to pretend she's still 21 while the mileage on her makes her look 30. Alex looks bored out of her mind. I don't know why Luke is even there. Lily hasn't had more than one line per episode this season. And you're telling me that fat little Manny is gonna be banging a professor? Joe is still cute and funny though.
Still, the show overall is funny. I'm in through season 10. But if for some reason they decide to go past that then I'm done.

The kids are tough because they are no longer kids. I have to admit in the episode where Alex and her boyfriend supposedly made the sex painting I was cringing. The kids have stopped being funny. Now I guess at some point Haley is going to come out as bi-sexual. Apparently the show wasn't catering to enough sexual minorities. They are struggling to find more envelopes to push, hence Manny banging the professor. It's OK to have one of them be unlucky in love. It was funny.

Just watched "Tough Love." It's pretty rare when all the plots are firing, but this one had it. Claire driving the truck was probably the weakest if I had to pick. Phil going all Bear Grylls was fucking hilarious. Surprisingly Cam & Mitchell's 21 Jump Street/Cam is gullible plot was actually funny. The baby switch with Lily was solid. Manny dating a teacher, while the least humorous plot, seemed like a natural way(older woman) to take his character.
Good stuff.

Season 10 will be the last
With the occasional solid episode or storyline this has been tough for a couple seasons. Phil is the only reason I watch now. The kids having sex storylines are cringe-worthy to me. I know they are adults but when you see them grow up you still think of them as kids. Hopefully they can pull a second wind for the final season.

This really can't end fast enough.
Apparently Sarah Hyland and Ariel Winter are angling for a reality show together.

Well, it sounds like nothing is definite yet about that being the last season. We'll have to see if ABC wants to keep it around longer and how much they'd be willing to pay for that.

Re: Modern Family (ABC) -- Season 9 Thread -- Premieres 9/27/17
Yeah...it is time for the show to end, and while I will be sad when it ends I admit that I can barely remember any highlights from an episode shortly after it has aired. I like the cast and think that now that we have seen them grow up (the kids, and to a lesser degree the adults) it will be nice to see the actors/actresses pop up in other endeavors.
For example, it is not a great movie but seeing folks like Sarah Hyland pop up in Vampire Academy was fun. Ariel Winter has already done lots of voice over work for other Disney shows, and of course it will be a pleasure to see where Julie Bowen ends up seeing as how I still have fond memories of her on the show ED (great show, also forgot it ran for 83 episodes and I probably watched most if not all of them). In many ways we will not lose out on seeing this cast on tv because starring on this hot show sets the cast up to fall on their feet and find other projects.
This is why I will not weep when The Big Bang Theory ends...we will see the cast of TBBT just scattered about on other half hour/hour long shows.
When you star on long running sitcoms you will be able to find other work when your show ends and not have to resort to relying on the publicity that comes with a leaked tape that hits the web to put you back in the limelight ...although Coral and Finisher's posts made me chuckle.
