Dominika Egorova is many things.
A devoted daughter determined to protect her mother at all costs.
A prima ballerina whose ferocity has pushed her body and mind to the absolute limit.
A master of seductive and manipulative combat.
When she suffers a career-ending injury, Dominika and her mother are facing a bleak and uncertain future. That is why she finds herself manipulated into becoming the newest recruit for Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people like her to use their bodies and minds as weapons. After enduring the perverse and sadistic training process, she emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow the program has ever produced. Dominika must now reconcile the person she was with the power she now commands, with her own life and everyone she cares about at risk, including an American CIA agent who tries to convince her he is the only person she can trust.

So it's La Femme Nitika with a little bit of Salt mixed in? Seems totally unoriginal in any event.

It's still odd how much Jennifer Lawrence looks like Emily Browning in the trailers for this. That said, the movie looks like a lot of fun to me.

It's based on a highly-acclaimed novel, so it has potential to be very good. I'm in.

Looked good to me. I love Jlaw, but hate all fake accents, but that won’t stop me...

Red Sparrow Director Responds To Black Widow Comparisons

https://screenrant.com/red-sparrow-b...ctor-comments/
“There’s people who think it’s very similar to the Black Widow story. This is not pulled from BW, this is pulled from Red Sparrow, you know, it’s just like written by a guy who was in the CIA. It’s like, his references are coming from a very very different place from that. But there’ll always be that. People like to put things in boxes, and I think is a really unique film. This is a thriller, it’s not action, again it’s not gadgety. It’s a hard-R. There’s violence, it’s a bit perverse, it’s suspenseful, a lot of intrigue. It ‘s a very different kind of spy film.”

When J-Law started talking, I kept waiting for Rocky and Bullwinkle to show up.
Still, I'm a sucker for this kind of movie (THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, SALT, BLACK CAT--HK remake of LA FEMME NIKITA, and various anime versions). And I've been wanting to see J-Law in an action movie that wasn't part of a franchise. (I'm still pushing for a remake of the HK female trio action thriller, SO CLOSE, with Scarlett Johansson and Lawrence as the sisters and Rooney Mara as the cop on their tail.)

I can’t tell if this is going to be awesome or a complete pile of shit.
Looking at the director’s work, I see the three mediocre Hunger Games movies, shitty Water for Elephants, shitty Constantine, and shitty I am Legend. Not exactly reassuring.
I still want to see this though.

^ Constantine was not shitty. I loath I Am Legend, though -- one of my favorite books of all time and they shit on it. I'll still see Red Sparrow, but I will wait for the BD.

The director knows how to make a movie look good, but doesn't know how to expand past what's written on paper. Catching Fire was solid and Constantine had its moments (but I generally agree, wasn't great)

I find it funny that they show J Law undress like four times in the trailer when you know damn well there will be no actual nudity in the film.

I like Constantine and I Am Legend, but neither are particularly amazing. Given the way reviews are turning out, seems like it'll be similar.

This one probably won't go too far box office wise.
I had to chuckle when I saw the news that Miss Jennifer is taking a year off of acting to "Fix our Democracy" here in America.
Sweetie, just stick to what you do semi-well pretending to be other people and making all your money to hide out in your mansion with your maid and fancy cars etc. Let the big kids handle the politics.

But really, based on what she said she was going to do I don't see the big deal.

"I'm going to be working with this organization as a part of Represent.Us ... trying to get young people engaged politically on a local level," the 27-year-old Academy Award winner said. "It doesn't have anything to do with partisan [politics]. It's just anti-corruption and stuff trying to pass state-by-state laws that can help prevent corruption, fix our democracy."
