Starting to watch Game Of Thrones

I finally decided to see what everyone has been talking about and take advantage of HBO On Demand to watch Game Of Thrones. I've only seen the first episode before, but I'd like to eventually watch the whole series.

Re: Starting to watch Game Of Thrones

Great series...so far but I'm way behind. I don't have HBO and ended up just taking the dive and grabbing Season 1 on Blu-Ray when there was a decent sale on all the Seasons on Amazon. I'm just finishing up Season 5 and grabbed Season 6 on sale thru the Playstation Store.

It's good with a lot of central characters and twists and love the setting, costumes and all the characters which seem to have a central part in the overall story. Just don't let the spoilers get to you. Season 1 started out great but .....I'm not saying another word.....but safe bet you'll get Season 2....then 3....then....

I think you'll like it up until the big twist where Snape turns himself in a pickle. He's Pickle Snape!!!

One piece of advice: Don't be afraid to use captions, especially early on. It helps quite a bit with keeping the names of characters/places straight while you get up to speed on them. I went back and re-watched the first season before the second season aired with the captions on and probably picked up on 10% more information.

Good advice, I was really confused with all the characters during the first few episodes and had forums like this to help clear things up. Captions probably help a lot, especially since a lot of names and locations sounded the same to me.

Re: Starting to watch Game Of Thrones

The good thing for you is the final season is rumored to be delayed until 2019, so that gives you 2 years to catch up. That is my selling point to friends/family/co-workers who haven't watched the show and are always hesitant to delve into a show with 5+ seasons to binge. If you watch 1 season every 3 months for the next 2 years, you will be ready for Season 8!

My recommendation is to read recaps and even go to older threads here after each episode just to clarify certain things (I like to read different opinions as everyone sees things differently in this show sometimes). They throw a lot out to you with so many characters, but it is rewarding as the series goes on as they rarely leave plot points hanging (like The Sopranos did).

Whatever you do, avoid the internet until you're caught up.

Don't let Joffrey fool you. He seems like a dick at first but he grows on you.

Re: Starting to watch Game Of Thrones

I’m rewatching this in anticipation for April. Man, this is some amazing fucking tv. The characters, the lore, the vastness, the everything is so well done and amazing. Seeing them (the characters) all now when they were young is so startling as I barely remember. Just remember the well worn characters now...

I've still never seen a single episode. I might wait for a complete series bluray set.

Way better than True Blood; nowhere near as good as The Sopranos. To put it in HBO terms.

The Sopranos really became a slog to get through as it went on, and it was padded out with some awful tangential storylines.

Re: Starting to watch Game Of Thrones

I've rewatched the entire GoT series (existing at that time) twice, before season 5 and last fall. For me, enjoyment was not much diminished by knowing what was going to happen. Performances and production are so good. Also the way the arcs unfold contain so many exciting individual moments and scenes.
Competes with The Wire for best HBO drama ever.

Agree with this completely. Been watching since day 1 and just about at the end of my first rewatch. If they stick the landing with this last season, I think I will have to consider it the best TV series ever. Right now that's The Wire for me.

Re: Starting to watch Game Of Thrones

Binge watched seasons 1-7 last year. What surprised me the most is how funny the show is.
