hints of new music on the way

Sleep Well Beast

I sure can use some new proper National music (no more side projects) in my life
can't believe it's been 4 years since TWFM

Definitely looking forward to this and a proper tour. They have a show announced for Queens, but I'm hoping for a club show somewhere near by.

The EL VY side project was good. I saw them live and it was a great show. I'm not into the Grateful Dead, so I did not listen to that album.

While I enjoy this band and will check out this album as well, does anyone ever feel that their shtick is in some ways boring and/or pathetic? The National is a band I would recommend someone to listen to if you wanted to hear a man drone on and on about his dating life or how depressing things are. It can get redundant to me and at times seem a bit ridiculous.

Been a fan of The National for a long time.

Loving that new song.

I'll never forget seeing them open for Arcade Fire years ago, the lead singer of The National came out in the crowd and was standing right next to me watching AF.

I was hoping for a smaller show in Philly, but that date I'll be out of town anyway. I guess I'll go to Queens.

The new song is great. The only time I saw them was at Lolla a few years ago and they blew me away.

It turns out I'll more than likely be out of town for the Queens show too. I looked at the presale tickets today... $100 a ticket for the floor? No way. I'd love to see them... but that is waaaaaaaaaaay to much for these guys.

I was so bummed that I couldn't go to any of the upcoming shows (plus ticket prices were too high, IMO). But they announced a small show at my favorite venue in Philly and will play the album in full... plus other songs I assume, as they did at some other shows in Upstate NY.

"To begin the week leading up to Sleep Well Beast’s release, World Cafe and NPR Music present a 'First Listen Live' at Philadelphia’s Union Transfer on Tuesday, September 5th, where we will perform the new album in full."

Wow. I am really loving 3 of the new songs. Can't wait to hear this album. Surprised it's not streaming already on some websites.

I was at the show last night. Great stuff.

I wish they played a longer set after playing the album though.

Matt sounded giddy in rare form

plus can't go wrong with any night Apartment Story is played

If anybody has Sirius XM, they are broadcasting a live set Friday night from NYC. I think it starts around 7:30 or 8pm.

Just listened to the new album on Apple Music. It is good. But a bit too long. 12 songs and nearly an hour? Cut down some of those nearly 6 minute tracks. I really dislike the title track, which closes the record.

Overall, a good album, and a something different from this band. They changed their sound a little.

This is a kick ass album - right up there with Broken Social Scene as my fav so far this year.
