The Shape of Water (2017, D: del Toro) S: Hawkins, Shannon, Spencer, Jones, Jenkins
Fox Searchlight will release Guillermo del Toro’s Cold War drama The Shape Of Water on December 8, right in the wheelhouse of the annual film awards season. The fantasy adventure film which has been mostly shrouded in secrecy stars Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, Lauren Lee Smith, Michael Stuhlbarg and Octavia Spencer.
From master story teller Guillermo del Toro, comes THE SHAPE OF WATER – an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forver when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment. Rounding out the cast are Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Doug Jones.
I'm surprised there wasn't a thread for this already considering how much the forum loves to deep throat del Toro.

I've been critical of Del Toro in the past but I think Pan's Labyrinth is a masterpiece. If this is anything close to PL I'll be happy!

I have and think it's pretty great as well, though I'd give the edge to Pan's. Frankly, The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labrynth are the only two Del Toro movies I genuinely like.
Although I do think his visuals are fantastic on most of his films.

I don't know about this one. Not a fan of GDT, but I have to say that I did like Crimson Peak a lot, even more than the overrated Pan's Labyrinth.

Not sure about this one. Seems like GDT is trying to make an artsy Hellboy prequel. Problem is the Hellboy movies had a sense of fun, and this doesn't seem to have that going for it.

"There's something here for lovers of all kinds of movies - even silents and musicals - but del Toro transcends mere pastiche to craft a work that feels like the product of our collective film-going subconscious."

Saw the preview before Mother and first I thought Hellboy then I thought it was the next Universal Monster film with The Creature from the black lagoon.
Still looks like,it will be great.
I love Pan's Labyrinth.

That poster is fantastic! (Is there an orange and teal version though?)
Octavia Spencer still takes me out of anything she is in.
How is this not a Hellboy prequel again?

I'm getting to see the film 2 months early!
The Mill Valley Film Festival is screening the film twice during its run. Originally the tickets were AT RUSH (Sold Out) but when I checked today, one of the dates opened up, so I was able to buy a pair of tickets.
So excited!
