Rolex Oscar commercial

I really liked the ad. Can we identify every film?

My brother, who is a big watch aficionado liked it, but immediately listed a handful of movies that feature Rolex that were left out, like Rainman and Die Hard.

I can think of several reasons James Bond wasn't featured, but I wonder which reason is, in fact, the reason.

Re: Rolex Oscar commercial

It made me realize that Rolex does a lot more product placement than I thought. Which was probably their intent.

Board meeting Exec #1: How do we bring more awareness to our product placement in movies?
Exec #2: Let's make an ad where we compile all the best moneyshots of our watches in movies!
All execs: Brilliant!

Good ad, though.

In the case of some films it goes a long way toward character development and isn't just product placement. I'm sure there are films where the script has specified Rolex.

Also, there are plenty of movies where the Rolex carries negative connotations, like Die Hard.

Re: Rolex Oscar commercial

What stood out to me most about this commercial was that it featured a clip of the just-deceased Bill Paxton.

I'd swear #6 is Dennis Hopper in Speed which is odd considering there's a huge plot point in that movie about him having a cheap gold watch.

It's been awhile since I've seen it though so there may have been a mention of a Rolex too.

I could be wrong but I think #15 might be Selma.

That Bronson shot was from The Mechanic (1977). Awesome seeing him on the screen again, even if it was just an ad.

My guess is that Bond is currently with Omega watches.

Re: Rolex Oscar commercial

The funny think about Rolex is that a servicing costs more than any of the 30+ watches that I own.

Yeah. I actually didnt catch the beginning of the ad the first time it aired, and thought they were doing some sort of memorial for him, until they moved on to the next clip. Great ad, though.

that is the reason I sold my Explorer II.
I'd worn it for over ten years and it needed a new crystal ($250) and the band re-polished ($200) besides the usual servicing ($400).

Re: Rolex Oscar commercial

Couldn't care less about a Rolex. Not enough to pay $20 for a fake in Thailand. Now I DID buy a fake Cartier. That shit looked classy

I've worn mine daily for 21 years, the crystal looks brand new, I've never had the band polished, and it's only been serviced once. Runs pretty good.
