With 50 Cent in it I assume the title will be changed to Den of Thievez and the next time I hear about it I'll be scrolling past it on Netflix looking for something better to watch.

DEN OF THIEVES is a gritty Los Angeles crime saga which follows the intersecting and often personally connected lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff's Dept. and the state's most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank of downtown Los Angeles.

yeah, that long runtime will not help what looks like another Butler pile of garbage. he really petered out after 300 in terms of quality. besides his franchise, "...Has Fallen" movies, he really has not become that big of a success...

I caught a matinee for this today.
Yes, it's really long at 2 hours and 20 minutes. This is going to be a hard one for most of you to make time for during the weekend.
I thought it was alright. It's better than a similar movie "Triple Nine" from a few years ago. I didn't like that movie at all. There were some cool things in this movie and some things that didn't really work.
The shootouts/action sequences IMO were awesome. They were almost "Heat" quality. They were pretty loud and intense. Whoever is the sound effects person on this, they did a hell of a job. If you are watching this at home on a souped up audio system, you'll probably make your neighbors think that gunfire is really coming from your house.
I saw this at an AMC Dolby screening with the extra big screen and souped up sound and it was pretty awesome from that technical standpoint.
There's a few unnecessary scenes that add to the bloated run time. It's mostly uninteresting relationship/character elements. There's a family element to Butler's character that didn't really work or go anywhere. Yeah his character is a brooding badass who's an asshole and a terrible husband. We get it.
I watched Stuckmann's review and agree with most of his opinion. I'd give it a C+ mainly for the action and shootouts.
Also, a little nitpick, I'm from Southern California and this movie takes place in Los Angeles, but is shot in Atlanta. Atlanta is nothing at all like Los Angeles. If you're familiar at all with LA, the streets, traffic lights and locations, you'll notice that Atlanta just can't pass for it. They use some stock footage of LA to help cheat things.
There's a big "Twist" ending that I think the writer's thought was more clever than it actually was. It came across as cheesy.

Stuckmann said this was literally an exact copy of Heat, down to the gun sound effects. It's a better Michael Mann film than Blackhat, though.

Its a poor mans Heat, and the family sub plot was unnecessary, but it was worth a moviepass watch.

It made a bit over 15 million. It could break even since it only cost 30 million. I've yet to see it, though.

Like everyone has mentioned, nothing new here except more intense shoot outs at times than Heat, but the problem is you don’t give a crap about the characters because the movie doesn’t either. A waste of some decent talent.

Decent movie, agree that the shootouts were really great and intense. The twist at the end was kind of silly, didn't feel earned given the context of the rest of the movie.

Had the day off today and had time to catch it and thought it was a lot of fun. Yeah, it's basically a remake of Heat (sort of) with a nice
twist.
Living in L.A. and all I always chuckle when they make certain areas seem like they're right next door. L.A. is huge, so some of the areas this took place in did not take such a short time to get too in film context. Logistics aside the Blu-ray will be mine.

It's a good little flick. It also clocks in at 140 minutes. They definitely got their money's worth. A 30 million budget and I think it's at 41 million domestic and 15-16 foreign, so It'll do well by the end and on video.

If Movie Pass is still in business when this comes out, I'll see the sequel. Hopefully it's not another bloated 140 minutes.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this. Yeah, it was a poor man’s Heat but it still had some pretty awesome shootouts and the heist plot, while fairly unbelievable, was played straight enough to have enough audience buy-in to make it work.
It also had some of the most realistic firearms use I’ve ever seen in a movie. It was obvious the actors unsent some hardcore training.
The Heat inspired family subplots didn’t quite work and could have been cut but they didn’t bog down the movie too much.
Overall, one of the better action/heist movies of the last few years.

Just saw this on Netflix. Good action in the beginning and end. Kind of slow in the middle, but still a good overall movie.
