Well I finally had my first DVD defect, I had ordered Event Horizon from buy.com and received it in the mail with other DVDs, and the Event Horizon case wasn't shrink wrapped and what do ya know there was no DVD in it. This doesn't happen often does it?

Over a year ago I received a shipment that was short one title, even though it was included on the packing slip. Took four months to straighten out.

Just send it back explaining what the deal is and they hopefully will sort the issue out.
Don't hold your breathe though as shops don't hurry in sorting out problems, they just do it when they feel like it...

Yeah I contacted them through the toll free number and they told me that they will investigate and send a new one in about 10-15 days which sux, but it's worth the wait. The funny thing though is I have an extra case, cuz they told me not to send it back.

This is going to sound crazy, but I have 2 witnesses to back me up..
When I opened my shrinkwrapped copy of The Insider there was no disc in the case. I guess someone on the production line in that manufacturing plant is pocketing the odd disc...

I had the same thing happen a few months ago. I opened my shrink wrapped copy of "City of Lost Children" and lo and behold, the reader card was included, but there was NO DVD inside.
Fortunately, it was an order from Columbia House. I contacted their customer support. They sent me a mailer and an exchange was made within a week. The empty case for another copy including the DVD.
All in all the process took about 2 1/2 weeks.

I ordered a copy of Fifth Element from CH and the DVD was not inside. It was shrink-wrapped as well. I called CH and they sent a new one out, which I received within two weeks or so. CH is pretty good about those types of screw-ups.

I ordered a Kryptonite Lock from Target.com. The packing slip said "Kryptonite Lock" but I received a Leatherman instead. Odd thing was that on the Leatherman, there was Kryptonite sticker on it.
So I called Target.com and told them about the situation. They said, just keep the Leatherman and that they'll send out the Lock for free. Very nice of them.
btw, the Leatherman was worth 2x the Kryptonite lock. Sometimes, on rare occasions, it's better when there is a screw up.

Same thing with the Naked Gun DVD from Buy. No shrinkwrap, no DVD - but yet the sticker across the top of the case was intact. I called and told them it looked like an employee of theirs was a thief.

That's interesting because mine didn't even have a sticker on it also. The replacement will be here tomorrow though so that was quick.

For those of you who recieved a shrinkwrapped DVD with no DVD inside - here's why: In the packaging plant - sometimes DVDs will stick together and get placed in the same container while the one preceeding or following it will get no DVD placed inside - all the while the machines are going about their routine unawares. Quality control usually picks these errors up, but occasionally some will get through like that. I got a CD like this once - I went back to the store and showed them - they gave me another which I opened in front of her and it had 2 CD's in it - so I gave her one and was on my way.

I recived a REINDEER GAME from buy, it was shrinkwraped, BUT there was a razor slit under the wrap and there was no disc inside! I called them, told them I think your employee stole it, they didnt believe my story, told me they will mailme a return label to mail the box back, then I will get the movie. 2 weeks later, no label, i called, they said they will send another one.week later, no label, they said it must be lost, will mail another one, I got angry, they said OK, we will mail a new copy of REINDEEER GAME in good faith, but please mail back the empty box when you recive the label. Recived the DVD, but still hasnt recived the label! they better NOT charge me for the replacement order!

Uhh - why don't you just print the label they email you? It's the same bloody thing. Don't you have a printer? If not - I'm sure a friend of yours has one you could use. They can email you a shipping label alot faster than they can send you one via snail mail.
This is why so many people have a problem with buy.com - they expect too much of them... they bend over backwards for customers and you want them to bend sideways as well? (sparking buy.com debate is unintentional)
