American Renegades (2018, D: Quale) -- S: Sullivan Stapleton, J.K. Simmons
RENEGADES is about a team of Navy SEALs on assignment in war-torn Europe who discover a treasure of gold at the bottom of a lake -- rumored to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. In an effort to help the locals, they go rogue and engineer a heist to retrieve the gold and return it to its rightful owners. But in a deadly turn of events, they are detected by the enemy and left with only 10 hours to carry out their mission.
The film stars J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) & Sullivan Stapleton (300: Rise of an Empire), is Directed by Steven Quale (Final Destination 5 and Into the Storm) and is an original story written by Luc Besson (Taken and Lucy).

All that's missing is Philip Winchester and this could have served as the Strike Back feature film.

There are plenty of fun PG-13 action movies.
Only drawback in this case you won't get to hear Sullivan Stapleton say "Fuck" or bang hot women like he did on Strike Back for 4 seasons.

So this movie was released in Europe last year and is already out on DVD/BD in Europe.
Still no U.S. release date and I think at this point, it's unlikely to get a theatrical release. I think this is headed for a Lionsgate Premiere VOD/Straight to video release. It's been in the can for almost 3 years now.
Anyways, it's leaked online so it's out there. I watched it today and it's kinda fun. It's not really a badass military action thriller like Strike Back. It's more of a fun and sometimes over the top heist movie, especially with the plot to recover $300M of stolen French gold. There are some pretty good action scenes and shootouts. They incorporate a little WW II backstory into this movie with flashbacks.
Stapleton's character is kind of similar to Damien Scott, except he doesn't curse. J.K. Simmons plays his commanding officer and he's way over the top. It's not one of his better acting performances. Overall, it's actually kind of light in tone and there is some humor. But, I thought for the most part it was very watchable.
This movie was originally called "The Lake" and if you watch it, you'll understand why.
I checked out IMDB and I guess opinions on this are very mixed.

Now called American Renegades. Coming to BD January 22nd
Will also be released in limited theaters and digital on December 21st.
