‘Snow White’ Latest Disney Live-Action Play

Disney has added Snow White to its development slate, eyeing a new live-action musical feature film based on its classic cartoon. This adds to the list of live-action updates of its animated fare joining Maleficent, Cinderella, The Jungle Book and the upcoming Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King among them. Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train) is in talks to pen the script for the pic, which will feature new songs by La La Land songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Marc Platt, who already is working on an update of The Little Mermaid as well as Mary Poppins and Wicked, is aboard to executive produce.

Nope.
There was a time when The Disney Co held this film so sacred that they wouldn’t release it on home video. They only allowed it to be viewed in 35 mm at an actual movie theater. Boy have times changed.

I know it's just snark, but there is a problem there, but not with the kiss. It's that the prince "saves" her and that's not allowed in Today's climate. The key to cracking the script is to turn it into an "empowerment" story for "Snow White". I don't know how the "Huntsman" film handled it...

There’s another way of reading Disney’s Snow White.
The prince kisses her and she seems to be revived, but then he walks her towards this.
That isn’t an earthly castle. That’s a castle in heaven. Snow White is dead. Too fragile for this world, her beauty is rewarded only in death. I’m making it more concrete. The film isn’t so literal or insistent on one or the other interpretation. That’s because it’s poetic, and a genuine piece of art.
But the remake will probably have a new version of Whistle While You Work by Ariana Grande ft/ DJ Kalid. So there’s always that.

The only way I’d see this is if they somehow had Peter Dinklage playing all seven of the dwarves because that would be awesome.

EXCLUSIVE: Although her upcoming breakout role as Maria in Steven Spielberg’s new retelling of West Side Story doesn’t bow till this winter, Rachel Zegler looks to have already found her next big role. Sources tell Deadline that Zegler is set to star as Snow White in Disney’s live-action adaptation of the film that started it all for the studio’s legendary slate of animated features. Marc Webb will direct, with Marc Platt producing. Production is expected to start in 2022.

I just can’t bring myself to care about any of these live action versions of classic animated Disney films. Cruella was fun, but not a remake. I haven’t watched one of the live action adaptations of the Disney films so far.

Same. Cruella at least did the prequel thing and went in a new direction. The shot for shot remakes of the animated classics are just absurd.

I guess I take it back somewhat. I did also watch the Glenn Close Dalmatians movies back in the day. Back then though those films were rarities and not something Disney was doing over and over.

Cinderella was good. It was not really a shot for shot remake though. It brought some new stuff to the table.
Cruella has more in common with Maleficent than the live action remakes though. They're both reimaginings of Disney villains as tragic heroes.
