I'm pretty excited for this - going to try to catch everything. Just saw Sleeping Beauty and Tron today - apparently only one 70 mm print of each exists in the U.S. Four of the below titles are on 35 mm (Ride Lonesome, The Vikings, The Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur), the rest are 70 mm.

Good line-up. The Paramount theater here in Austin does a summer movie series and every year they have a 70mm week. Over the years I think I've seen every one of those, and all were great experiences. To make it better, they show Lawrence of Arabia every year in 70mm. I try to see it every year since it's my second favorite movie of all time. But nothing beats watching these in 70mm, not even a kick ass home theater.

Another great one was seeing Amadeus in 70mm. I think that was the best presentation ever. The print looked flawless.

The Senator Theatre in Baltimore used to hold 70mm festivals. They're under new management these days, and while they do have a robust revival schedule, just about everything is digitally projected.

Still, happy I had the chance to see 2001, Ben-Hur, West Side Story, Spartacus, Sound of Music, Wild Bunch, Lawrence of Arabia and a number of others while they were running those festivals.

I've attended several 70 mm screenings at the AFI Silver, but at this theater it's really cool to get the community atmosphere and having the projectionist (who is also one of the programmers) come out and talk about the movie and the print before each show.

The Somerville Theater in Somerville, MA.

They had it last year as well, in an okay print. The projectionist said the upcoming presentation will feature a better print.

If "Ride Lonesome" had been shown an hour later, I would have gone into town to see it---I couldn't quite make it there for 6:00. Those Scott/Boetticher westerns are some of my favorite films.

I just saw Ride Lonesome - really liked it. Print was okay. I'm probably going to skip The Wild Bunch, since I've seen it in 70 and am not really a huge fan.

By the way- the schedule has changed a bit. Mad Mad Mad Mad world has been moved over to the 24th. West Side Story had a showing on Sat and will show as planned on Thursday. They keep saying the print for it is the best it's ever looked.

Neither Ride Lonesome nor The Wild Bunch were shot in 70mm.

Right. As I already mentioned, Ride Lonesome is one of the films being presented in 35 mm. And it's pretty well known that The Wild Bunch is a blow up.

Most movies shown in IMAX weren't shot with IMAX cameras but they were still fun to watch.

Saw this in 70mm when I was a child in Northern Virginia at Tysons Cinema. It was pretty spectacular.

Never knew Tysons was 70 mm capable.

I skipped out on Interstellar. Saw Silverado for the first time- not bad, but a bit corny at times. Hadn't seen Scott Glenn in a leading role- and I'm not sure how many he had after this.

E Unit

Not leading roles, but he had some good stuff in Urban Cowboy, Hunt for Red October, and Silence of the Lambs.

It's been a while since I saw Silence of the Lambs- didn't know who he was then. I should rewatch that. Haven't seen the other two yet. Definitely know him from Daredevil though.

Tysons Corner Mall only had 70mm for 'The Hateful Eight'

Tyson's Cinema was in the strip mall where the Tower Record's used to be.

Edit: Just saw your post on Cinema Treasures. Yeah, I didn't go into Vienna much.

And I was wondering what happened to the 70 mm projectors that were used at all the multiplexes for Hateful Eight- guess they got shipped back out.

the theater was here from 1968-1987 - the space is now a Crunch Fitness.

who knows maybe AMC will reinstall the 70mm projector for next year's "Dunkirk"
