Is Buffy the most successful TV show based on a movie ?
Rush Hour, Minority report, Blade, Terminator, limitless, the list of failures is endless
The only really mega successful tv show based on a movie i can think of is Buffy the vampire slayer
What others have been successful ?
Just to be clear, we are talking about TV shows based on a particular movie, not TV spinoffs from movies (like Agents of Shield and a lot of the Star wars animated shows )

I think I'd go with Stargate which not only spawned one show that ran for ten seasons but two spin-offs.

I like Fargo better than I ever liked Buffy, same goes for MASH.
Bates Motel has done pretty well, Hannibal turned out great, my dad loves the How to Train Your Dragon shows, and Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp surpassed its source in a few aspects.

M*A*S*H ran for 11 seasons and 250+ episodes. It was nominated for over 100 Emmys and won 14 Emmys, including one for Best Comedy Series and 3 for Alan Alda as Leading Actor.
It was a Top Ten hit for 9 of its 11 years. On average, each of its 250+ episodes was watched by about 25 million people.
Its final episode is/was the most watched episode of any TV series in history. The night it aired, it was watched by an estimated 125 million Americans.
Reruns of MASH episodes have been airing in syndication for over 40 years.
Nothing else anybody is going to name will come close to matching M*A*S*H in popularity, critical success, profitability, or general importance in TV history.
