RIP Jon Polito 1950-2016

Saddened to hear, about the passing of One of my favorite character actors. Will definitely rewatch Miller's Crossing and an episode or Two of Homicide, in his honor.

He was awesome. I thought he was a little bit older than that.

So did I.
That's too bad, he could do comedy or drama equally well.

Re: RIP Jon Polito 1950-2016

Jon Polito -- best known for his roles in Coen Brothers films like "The Big Lebowski" and "Miller's Crossing" -- died Thursday night after being taken off life support ... according to family sources.

We're told Jon was diagnosed with melanoma in 2008 -- he was also suffering from arthritis and had an infection related to a recent surgery. He slipped into a coma last Sunday.

Director John McNaughton broke the news Friday morning -- "Jon was a born actor and will be deeply missed by his legion of friends, fans, family and of course his long time partner, Darryl Armbruster to whom I send my condolences. R.I.P. old pal."

The Philly native was a seasoned Hollywood vet, landing roles in nearly 100 movies. He also has several TV credits, including a recurring role on ABC's "Modern Family."

He was 65.

Yeah, he only would have been 42 or 43 when he was in The Crow. Seemed ten years older. I think James O'Barr based the pawn shop owner in the comic book on him, and then he was cast in the movie.

Great character actor; always did a great job playing that guy.

Re: RIP Jon Polito 1950-2016

It was like he was born in 1900. Every character he played was from the '30s or '50s. A perfect period character actor.

Heaven knows I love Miller's Crossing and Polito is probably 90% responsible for that love.

"I'm talkin' about friendship. I'm talkin' about character. I'm talkin' about - hell. Leo, I ain't embarrassed to use the word - I'm talkin' about ethics."

Re: RIP Jon Polito 1950-2016

Wow, just pulled out my copy of The Big Lebowski for David Huddleston last week, and now another of the Coen alumni. A sad reason for a Coen brothers mini - marathon, but a chance to celebrate his work. Thanks for the laughs, Jon.
