Above the Law 2 -- S: Steven Seagal -- Reportedly in development

http://cityonfire.com/steven-seagal-...he-law-sequel/

The man, the myth, the mystique that is Steven Seagal started with 1988′s Above the Law, his gritty debut feature by director Andrew Davis (The Fugitive). The film put Seagal on the map in the late 80s/early 90s and from that point on, his movies would get bigger, louder and more successful for the next 4 years or so.

Just recently, the Exit Wounds star “officially” tweeted the idea of bringing back Nico Tuscani (his character from Above the Law). Of course, this tweet most likely means nothing, but we couldn’t help to make a post about it. With the resurgence of titles such as Samurai Cop 2, Kickboxer: Vengeance and xXx 3, anything is possible, right? Just don’t be expecting Davis to return to the director’s chair – expect someone like Keoni Waxman (Force of Execution), Seagal’s frequent filmmaker of choice of recent times.

If it doesn’t happen, fans still have a mountain full of pending Seagal films to look forward to that include Attrition, China Salesman, Contract to Kill, Cypher, Gunfighter, End of a Gun, Deadly Arsenal and Four Towers. His latest completed films include Code of Honor, The Asian Connection and Perfect Weapon.

If an Above the Law sequel materializes, you’ll definitely hear from us.

Updates: Well, it looks like there might be a grain of truth to the news we reported a week ago. Woodie Mister, partner of Seagal, states that he and the Aikido star are officially developing an Above the Law sequel (via Woody’s Twitter/FCS). Of course, nothing is 100% certain until production begins, but we have our fingers crossed.

If you have no idea who Woody Mister is, he's apparently Steven Seagal's producing and business partner.

Steven & I are developing "Above The Law 2"- Nico is back with vengeance. #NicosRevenge #Steamroller #AboveTheLaw2

Very excited about this. 27 years in making. #SteamRoller #AboveTheLaw2 @NicosRevenge

I highly doubt that Warner Brothers would greelight a sequel to a movie from 1988 that was only a moderate hit at the time. I think this most likely heads straight to video. Seagal is probably going to have to buy the rights to the character and produce this independently.

I saw Segal at a local bar maybe 3 years back... I commented to a buddy that it looks like "that guy over there ate Steven Segal"... sure enough, it was the man himself. He must've been 275 lbs.

I don't think I've seen anything he's done since Executive Decision, which I don't even really count as a "Seagal movie". I don't remember watching Fire Down Below. I might have it with one of those 3 or 4 pack collections. Everything before that up to Under Siege 2 was generally pretty clutch. But really, has there been any film of his worth seeing in the last 20 years? (If so, give me some to check out) Even someone like JCVD, who went the way of DTV stinkers, had some decent attempts.

His last decent theatrical release before he went off the rails doing cheap direct to video movies IMO was Exit Wounds from 2001. It was a Warner Brothers movie and had a semi decent budget of around $33M.

It at least has a somewhat credible supporting cast. Michael Jai White, Isaiah Washington, Jill Hennessy, Bill Duke, Bruce McGill, Anthony Anderson and Eva Mendes. It was a gritty Detroit cop action movie.

He's been constantly doing movies, although 90% have gone straight to video. Only theatrical ones after Executive Decision were Fire Down Below, The Patriot, and Exit Wounds. Since those, I think he's done literally 35-40 movies, all of which are forgettable.

I'm sure Sharon Stone and Pam Grier would be down for this.

What does his weight have to do with anything?

You're right... an obese Seagal in an action flick is perfectly natural.

275 lbs of fat fuck.

I never got the love for Seagal. Didn't care for him as a kid... don't care for him now. His stuff just never had real impact to it compared to JCVD and the whatnot. All he had was a ponytail that made stick out differently.

Of all the films he's done (of which I haven't seen any of the ones he's done in the last 20 years), Above the Law is actually decent. You get to see pictures of young SS when he was an Aikido instructor (the first non-Japanese) in Japan.

Back in the day I was a teenager who saw JCVD and Seagal movies on day 1... some still kinda-sorta hold up... but you couldn't pay me to watch a Seagal movie now.
