The single's pretty decent. I'm still skeptical that the whole thing will be good (I hated their 3-set of albums a few years back) but yeah... single is decent.

The single is better than anything on the trilogy... which I don't even remember.

Re: Green Day -- Revolution Radio -- 10/7/16

Meh I'm not a huge fan of the single. Musically it's what you'd expect but the lyrics are stupid. I used to be a big fan of Green Day but they just aren't what they once were. For better or worse I think American Idiot was their last great album and everything since just feels off somehow.

Actually probably the best thing they've done since that album was the one they released under the name Foxboro Hot Tubs which was very different for them but a fun album. I actually think my overall favorite album from them is Warning which doesn't seem to get a lot of love but I've always really enjoyed. Dookie and Nimrod are good too.

I thought Warning was great. I prefer it over American Idiot (which I don't even really care much for).

Yea, American Idiot wasn't good. Is there a more emo song than Boulevard of Broken Dreams? I just cringe thinking about the lyrics. Perfect song for the wristcutting, long black hair wearing, non smiling types.

I thought American Idiot was good for the time and it does have some decent songs but it also sort of represents a change in the band that I don't care for.

Re: Green Day -- Revolution Radio -- 10/7/16

The single Revolution Radio is also out, and I like it better than Bang Bang.

This CD has promise if the rest of the songs have similar quality. They made a mistake with the trilogy, it had about 1 CD worth of good cuts and the rest are just B-sides.

For what it's worth, I think American Idiot is their best album, with 21st Century Breakdown pretty close to it in quality. I also love Warning and Nimrod. Both live albums are pretty good, too.

Re: Green Day -- Revolution Radio -- 10/7/16

I wasn't a fan of 21st Century Breakdown. Coming off of American Idiot it felt kind of weak to me and like it was trying to be more of the same as its predecessor. I only bought the first two albums of their trilogy and neither stuck with me and I haven't been compelled to buy the third.

Insomniac is pretty good but for me it isn't one I go back to very often. I admit a lot of Green Day's appeal to me is their more pop punk stuff and to me Insomniac was heavy by their standards.

Re: Green Day -- Revolution Radio -- 10/7/16

I saw them on Monday at the 930 Club, it was everything I always wanted it to be. They were my favorite band in 6th grade (when Dookie came out), I remember being pissed that my mom wouldn't take me to their show in Baltimore around that time. Over the years I still listened to them by my musical taste became more and more jaded. Finally by the time I hears American Idiot, I felt disconnected from them. Time went by, I still gave the new albums a listen, usually just once.

The show got announced, and I decided now is the time, my inner 12 year old was ready. I had a blast, lots of energy, every lyric came right back to me. There's still the jaded side of me, way too much audience pandering and call & response.

The best part was when Billie Joe's microphone wasn't working at the start of Longview. The crowd started singing the first verse while the sound guy at the board tried to figure out what was happening. The mic started right before the chorus. The second verse starts and BJ begins singing the first verse. He yells out "FUCK IT. Who here knows the song?" He looks around and the next thing you hear is "you, kid, with the curly hair, you know it? Alright, get up here." This was the second time a kid had been pulled up to the stage, but the first time seemed much more planned, like the kid was told it was going to happen and followed the plan that was set forth (I understand they bring a kid up during Holiday at every show). This kid got up and instantly went over and hugged BJ. You hear him say off mic "I'm nervous". He couldn't have been more that 12. The kid hesitated, BJ whispered the first line in his ear and the kid took off. It culminated with the kid hopping up on the monitor, singing the final line of the third verse (When masturbation's lost its fun, You're fucking lonely) giving the horns and diving into the crowd. Pure smiles all around.

Re: Green Day -- Revolution Radio -- 10/7/16

I think they're going to regret booking the Rose Bowl. There are still reserved floor seats in the 21st row that haven't sold since I checked yesterday. I think they way overbooked the size of venues on this tour. If you can still get floor seats that stadium is going to be empty.
