I remember two things about the mags:

1) The first issue with the LoZ second quest maps. I was so pumped to finally make progress.

2) Finally finding out how to get the Rocket Launcher in Metal Gear. I was befuddled by that until mag.

One of the few regrets I have is throwing out the majority of my NP collection back in high school. Most of them were in bad shape from having been read through so many times when they were first published, so they wouldn't have fetched much - if anything - on any secondary market (not that there was much of one at that time anyway), but they were a fun piece of nostalgia that I find myself wishing I could revisit from time to time.

I know what I'll be doing for the next little bit.

I used to have a massive game magazine collection all mid 90's/early 2000's. I had probably a thousand issues of Electronic Gaming Monthly, Gamefan, Play, Official Dreamcast Magazine, PSM, Nintendo Power that I had to chuck in the recycling when I moved from California to Arizona.

I have a Nintendo Power collection of the first 80 issues or so, along with Nintendo Fun Club before that. Issue 80 is around the time they started covering Nintendo 64 games.

Isn't all that stuff copyrighted? What if down the road they want to offer people to read them as part of some digital magazine subscription service?

Nintendo Power was the first video game magazine I read as a kid and I thought it was awesome. My friend had a subscription and a collection going back to the first issue, which is how I discovered them. I could never find them on the newstands until later when, I think, the N64 was out. It was a quality magazine in the early days.

Is there a legit place to read old school video game magazines?

Aside from the fact that excerpts, including maps, of Nintendo Power are included in the upcoming Playing with Power, they've also relatively recently reprinted the magazine's Legend of Zelda manga and are apparently doing the same for the Super Mario ones in the near future. Of course this was coming down as soon as Nintendo became aware of it.
