I emailed amazon.com requesting to exchange my defective Leon DVD with the fixed Leon DVD which I thought was released on 9/25/2000. And this was their reply:

Greetings from Amazon.com.

At this time we are expecting a new release for "Leon: The Professional"
on the 3rd of October. However this is a different DVD then the one you
ordered, with added features, and a different price. We will gladly send
you a return merchandise label for the defective DVD. The label should
arrive in 1 to 2 weeks, at that time you can return the DVD to us for a
full refund.

Also you can place an order for the new DVD and we will ship it as soon as
it arrives. Just simply follow the link below to pre-order.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004YYDI/qid%3D970183681/

Please don't hesitate to contact us again if you have any further
questions. Thanks again for shopping at Amazon.com.

Best regards,

Matthew Johnson

THIS IS MY REPLY:

Dear Matthew,

I am very disappointed with your answer to my request. The new version that
is to be released in 10/3/2000 is same exact DVD except with the defective
audio fixed. The features on both DVD are the same and there is no
difference. Amazon.com is simply forcing me to pay more by giving me a
refund for the defective DVD and making me pre-order at a higher price.
This is simply WRONG and unprofessional. The right and fair thing to do is
give me an even exchange because the defective DVD problem is something that
I did not want and is something I should not have to pay for. If you were
in my shoes, I think you would feel the same way.

**************

I will definately post amamzon's reply. Has anyone received similiar responses from amazon.com regarding this issue?

I didn't get a request to pay more for my replacement either. I called their 1-800# and the CSR said they would replace it for free. She also stated that return postage would be included to return my defective copy.

-Here is part of the reply I received -

I have placed a new order (001-xxxx824-2380235) for "Leon - The
Professional (Uncut International Version)," and it will ship as soon as
it is released to the same address via UPS 2nd Day Air. There will of
course be no additional charge for this replacement copy.

We would ask that you return the defective item so that we may obtain
a refund from our supplier. Please note the defect on the return
slip, or a separate piece of paper if you no longer have the slip, and
return the items in their original packaging if possible. A
postage-paid return mailing label will be included with the
replacement shipment for this purpose.

-Call and talk to a different CSR.

ironmonkey, you definitely got some punk with an attitude, there are a lot of them out there and for some reason they all seem to end up as cops or csr's.

Call them back, I guess I got lucky but the rep I spoke to placed an order for the replacement at no charge and didn't even mention sending back the defective one.

Thanks everyone,

Took all your advise and call CS and had to speak to an order specialists. However, after explaining the situation, she agreed to give me an even exchange.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

An order specialist listened, thought about it while, recognized the prolem I had been having concerning geting my GC re-credited, and he fixed it. Right then and there. Nice guy - by the name of Steffen.

Hey, every company employs some guy who is just a schmuck. But there are tons of nice helpful folks out there, too. Cop an attitude with them, be prepared to get burned back.

Called a few minutes ago. Talked to a nice person named Emily who was aware of the Leon situation.

I pretty much said that I wish for them to send me the new version when it get's released on 10/3 with a postage paid sticker thingy so I can send the defective one back.

Absolutely, no problems. It's all in the attitude.. I guess.

My acct popped up with 2nd day air on it as shipping. Cool.. Too bad it always takes 2 days regardless.

I had a few problems with AMAZON. After they cancelled and then reinstated HEATHERS dvd to my order, they lost my $20 GC I applied to it. Many emails and phone calls later, I spoke with Kerrie and she read the emails and listened to my sad story. She laughed slightly and with a great attitude she gave me anothe $20 GC. Another CSR I spoke with immediately gave me a new order number for LEON, and said they will send a return prepaid sticker.
All etailers have problems, and there are diffrent kind of people working there. I guess the ones with a better attitude will help resolve the problems. I have been lucky, I seem to get the better CSRs.

Happy New Year to all my fellow DVDTalkers.

zakzouki,

The first batch of Leon: The Professional DVD release on 8/20/2000 had a defective audio signal in 5.1 DD sound mode. The rear surround sound signal were barely producing any sound. For more discussions on this issue, do a search in this forum under "Leon: The Professional"

Hope this helps

I emailed them a weeks or so ago. And since I live so far from the US (20 minutes from the border way off in Ontario Canada) they are sending me a replacement and I get to keep the original. Seems it cost to much for them to pay return shipping from canada..

Odd since it only cost me 3 bucks US to ship a DVD to the US. (costs amazon at least 10 bucks, but I get international priority mail for me new version which is 20 bucks or so).. Maybe you guys get to subsidize us?

Terry,

The reason why they would let you keep the defective is because of the customs charges they would incur, as well as the return postage of a different currency. If they had all international customers return stuff, trust me, it would be too much work. They'd probably only ask you to return the defective item if it the item itself is worth a lot.
