Preacher (S1E04) -- "Monster Swamp" -- 6/19/16
An all new episode of AMC's "Preacher" airs Sunday, June 19th at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. On the fourth episode, "Monster Swamp" - written by Sara Goodman and directed by Craig Zisk - Jesse makes Quincannon a bet he can't refuse, Cassidy works to fend off the angels, and Tulip tries to bring justice to Annville. Critics continue to rave about the series, including Eric Francisco of Inverse.com, who said, "'Preacher' is the subversive dark comedy tv desperately needs right now."

I started it twice now, but haven't make it through. This just isn't the story I grew up with. I may binge it later if it sounds like season 2 will try to fix this show and make it more like the comics I loved. But for now, I'm probably out. It pains me to say this about an adaptation of a story I spend years geeking out over.

Tulip continue to bring every episode down around her. And JEH seems so wasted in this.
First episode that did nothing for me. Still giving it a shot until the end of this season.

I was thinking about it as I watched this episode and the Comics series was never about Annville, -ever, -and now they've built the show so that the book's characters are living in this town they've created (with its own characters and rhythms and how they relate), which is a fundamental difference. I'm giving them a chance to pull it together, but so far its not quite working for me.

Yep, when Jesse gets the power it destroys the church and kills the entire congregation.
I really want to give this show a chance, but the slow pace is killing me. Last episode wasn't as bad as this one. Last time nothing really happened, but at least it kind of flew by. This one nothing much happened and it dragged.

Anyone catch how JEH whipped it out to piss on the briefcase, it goes to commercial, when it comes back one of the angels is watching a commercial sexualizing a double cheeseburger and at one point the 2 patties in the commercial are shaped like a vag.

Yeah, while still intriguing the show is actually moving slower with each episode. I don't have a problem giving it 45 minutes a week during the summer lineups, but if it wants me to come back for season 2 I'm still waiting for a reason.

The show started with some promise, but any good will is leaving fast. The show has one redemming feature and thats Cassidy. Cooper is a great actor, but the character of Jesse is so wrong. It showed potential when he beat the shit out of the guy early on, but now the character seems dull and too much of a slow burn to keep interest. Tulip and Negga continue to be plain horrible. I want to smash my TV every single time the character comes on scree. Going the cheap route of setting the whole thing in the small town is wrong. I can understand the budgetary reasons, but this is a story where you either go big or go home. Each episode is soooooooooooo slow and as one poster correctly says they are simply things happening without much direction. If i knew that the first season was simply trying to set things up and that future seasons would be more of a road movie and stick closer to the source material then i might be more invested. But as it is i am close to stopping watching this show. Its proving to be a massive let down.
Also, i do get the feeling they are trying hard for people to compare it to Breaking Bad in style and maybe with the slow burn. Boy are they way off base unless this shit improves 1000% real quick. But even the early BB episodes were solid. This is just shit.

I don't know. I like it (maybe because I never read the comic). Whatever you say about the show, it's certainly unique.

I actually liked this episode for the most part but I think comic book readers will be very disappointed by this adaptation. While Tulip was wrongly cast, I don't think it's a dealbreaker for the long-term health of Preacher.
The story is moving in a very roundabout way, one which switches the focus to Jesse living in a town of kooky characters.

This series has been a confusing bore so far.
I never read the comic but it seems the ghost of JOHN WAYNE made a few appearances, maybe its
time to cast that role.

Havent watched yet cause I was out of town, and not even sure I care to at this point. Unfortunately this is going to sink any proper adaptation for years and years.

How many more episodes left in this season? I hope Halt and Catch Fire is coming back when this is over.
