Mike Wallace retired at 88 and Andy Rooney retired at 92. Those 60 Minutes guys are stubborn old men.

It was incredible watching the tribute this past Sunday (by the way, I though I was watching a tribute hour because he had already passed away, not because he recently retired) and being able to say to my parents...hey, I remember watching that segment when it first aired (I am one of many who grew up watching 60 Minutes with my parents).

Yeah, the tribute was great. So weird that he passed right after retirement.

Actually Safer hasn't worked since March, but CBS "officially" announced his retirement this past week and put together the 60 Minutes special because his health was really declining and they wanted to give him a proper on-air acknowledgement.

Jeff Fager, the EP of 60 Minutes, said today that Safer saw the special on Sunday. But, according to him, he was in bad shape physically and the end was near.
