Tuco was selling to Crazy-8, who was the first person Walt killed.

Sorry to be THAT GUY, but technically, Walt killed Emilio 1st (in the RV)

Anyway, great episode - although any episode with Tuco in it doing Tuco-type shit almost automatically gets an "A" from me.

Fantastic episode. The Mike centric episodes are always really well done and Banks just owns his role so well. Tuco was actually relatively calm other than when he beat the shit out of Mike but I still enjoyed seeing him show up again. The Jimmy stuff was good tonight too particularly the scenes with him and Chuck. Probably the standout episode of the season thus far in my opinion.

It amazes me how Gilligan and company are following up on Breaking Bad with a show that's equally brilliant in my opinion. I was so skeptical before it started thinking it may not live up but the show really sucks me in and just adds more layers to this universe and characters.

wasn't thrilled to see Tuco yet again but loved the way it played out
also greatly enjoyed Jimmy's egging on of Chuck

Yeah, great episode all around. The only I'm not buying is how much the law firms are freaking out over that commercial.

I think it's more just that he did it without approval so they worry what else he might do.

Great episode.

As much black comedy is present, both Saul & BB are Shakespearean tragedies at heart.

A great little scheme to watch play out between Mike and Tuco.

Okay so I can't figure out what Mike's end game is here? Why not just kill Tuco? And if not kill him why come up with a plan where he puts himself front and center to take a beating? Is he working a long game to try and get in with the Salamanca crew?

Why? They stated how hard they've worked to become a respectable law firm. The commercial, while effective for that particular case, unfortunately paints the firm as ambulance chasers. On top of that, Saul went ahead and did it without any approval. I can totally understand that they would be pissed.

On another note, damn, Tuco's character is intimidating. Did he ever mention doing 5 years in BB? Did he and Mike have any interaction in BB?

Wouldn't it be better to make the same money without committing a crime, particularly murder?

Although, I would have some concern that the same people that would come looking for Tuco's murderer, had that happened, would also come looking for Mike. Even if simply for revenge, at Tuco's request.

I thought it was double the money for killing him?

Okay, maybe I missed that. Regardless, half the money for no crime (well I suppose he committed a crime by making a false report), still sounds like a better deal.

No, I figure he's just playing it safe, as a murder would bring heat from both the cartels and law enforcement that he wouldn't want.

Pissed, sure. But not at this level, especially since there's the precedent of them having already done a commercial in the past.

To the folks here that watched the sneak peek for next weeks episode... am I the only one who thought that that was Gus whom Mike was sitting down and meeting with at the very end, in the diner? Kinda looked like him from the back.

They made it a point to point out how anal they were about that first commercial even on details like the types of swirls they used in the graphics. This is an extremely conservative law firm. I think that's what they were trying to get across.

The types of swirls were deliberated on by the filmmakers, and the impression I got was that they were trying to be perfectionists with respect to the look of the commercial, not in regards to matching the prestige of the law firm, since Jimmy then straight up put his voice in at the end.

Re: Better Call Saul (S2E04) -- "Gloves Off" -- 3/7/16

I thought Mike laid out his reasons for not wanting to kill Tuco the way Nacho had wanted it done pretty well, especially as far as where the trail would lead. I guess they could still go after Mike, but on the surface it looks like Tuco just picked a fight with some random old man and Nacho could back that up.

I really liked the way they pulled that off, even though i'm more interested in Jimmy's story then Mike's.

As for Jimmy, again I thought the other partners as well as Chuck later on laid out the reasons why they took it as harshly as they did.

Preaching to the choir on how awesome Mike is.
"Who would pull up next to Tuco's car?"
deadpan: "I suppose it'd be somebody who likes tacos."

I missed that during the episode, but noticed 'Crazy 8' in the end credits so figured that must have been him. Love how they're incorporating characters from BB.

And of course Jim Beaver as the arms dealer, who sold to Walt on a couple occasions in BB.

I loved how they staged it so we got the reveal of Mike's face in the opening scene, then in the final scene they kept the normal side of his face in shadow.
