Drew (Based on Nancy Drew books) -- S: Sarah Shahi -- Pilot ordered by CBS

Pretty much a given this will be a case of the week procedural. But, love the casting of Shahi. I'll definitely check this out if it gets picked up to series.
BTW, still annoyed that CBS hasn't scheduled Person of Interest. Looking like their final season will air this summer.
Sarah Shahi To Play Nancy Drew In CBS Pilot About Famous Sleuth
Person of Interest‘s Sarah Shahi is set to topline Drew, CBS’ drama pilot based on the Nancy Drew character from the classic mystery book series.
Written by Joan Rater and Tony Phelan and directed by James Strong, Drew, from CBS Studios, is described as a contemporary take on the character from the books, with Nancy (Shahi), now in her 30s, working as a detective for the NYPD where she investigates and solves crimes using her uncanny observational skills, all while navigating the complexities of life in a modern world.
For the past couple of seasons, Shahi has been a regular on the CBS/Warner Bros. TV’s series Person of Interest though she has not appeared in all episodes of the fourth as well as the upcoming fifth season. Despite all indications pointing to Season 5 being POI‘s last, CBS has said that it would not make a decision before the show returns on the air. There is no Season 5 premiere date set yet though CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller said in January that the show would come back in the spring. Regardless, Drew has Shahi in first position. And both shows are on the same network.
In Drew, Shahi joins previously cast Vanessa Ferlito as George, an NYPD homicide detective, Anthony Edwards as Nancy’s dad and Feliz Solis as NYPD lieutenant. Rater and Phelan executive produce with Dan Jinks.
Following her breakout role on The L Word, Shahi played the female lead opposite Damian Lewis on the NBC drama series Life and toplined USA’s Fairly Legal. She also recurred on NBC’s Chicago Fire. Shahi is repped by CAA, McKeon-Myones Entertainment and Meyer & Downs.

Didn't have much interest in this when it was announced, but Shahi will get me to check it out at least (if it's picked up). I like Anthony Edwards from his ER days too.
Yeah, still waiting for Person of Interest. They seem to keep pushing it back all the time.

They're basically doing with Nancy what was done with "Veronica Mars" in the film, -"here's what happened after..." the books (or the previous series). Really, its just a hook for a police procedural, that will (probably) be not all that different if she wasn't called Nancy Drew.

Nancy Drew, in the books I read as a kid, was a teenage daughter of a wealthy lawyer from a good family. She would visit friends of her father who were also from good families and were also in the social register. They had excellent manners. The villain was always some bad-mannered person who pretended that they were part of good society, but it was always revealed that they really came from the lower classes. The villain's henchmen were usually "swarthy". I'm not sure what that meant, but it seems to be different from "colored", which described the servants. They were definitely not Anglo-Saxon like Nancy, and they spoke in low-class Brooklyn accents.
Nancy had two friends. One was too plump and thought mostly about boys, dresses, and balls. The other was too athletic and didn't think enough about boys, dresses, and balls. Nancy was just right.
Too bad CBS decided to remove everything that made Nancy Drew unique. I might have enjoyed a show about a teenage girl detective in The Great Gatsby's milieu. I don't care about another procedural.

Pilot is dead at CBS. Shahi is unemployed for the time being. Maybe Lifetime would be interested?

Deadline reports that the pilot tested well with audiences but was deemed “too female” for the network, which also would have had trouble finding it a spot on the schedule; CBS TV Studios, which produced the pilot, will shop it to other outlets.

I think Supergirl got the "too female" ax too.

'Nancy Drew' Reboot Being Redeveloped at NBC
More than a year after CBS passed on its Sarah Shahi-fronted Nancy Drew, NBC is teaming with Tony Phelan and Joan Rater to redevelop the drama.
The project, which is in development, has an entirely new logline at CBS despite hailing from the same producing team and studio (CBS Television Studios). Here's the new logline: "When the author of the most famous female teen detective series is thrust into a real-life murder mystery, who does she turn to for help? Her two best friends from childhood, who were the inspiration for all those books, and the women who have a real ax to grind about the way their supposed best friend chose to portray them all those years ago."
The CBS version, which made headlines for its inclusive casting of Person of Interest grad Shahi, went to pilot and was described as a contemporary take on the character from the book series. It starred Shahi as Nancy, now in her 30s and working as a detective for the NYPD where she investigated and solved crimes using her uncanny observational skills, all while navigating the complexities of life in a modern world. CBS passed on the pilot in May 2016 after sources at the time said the drama did not come in as strong as the network would have hoped. Multiple industry observers noted that it was a toss-up between Katherine Heigl legal drama Doubt and Drew for the remaining drama slot at CBS. (Doubt, also written by Phelan and Rater, went on to be picked up to series and canceled after only airing a handful of episodes.)
NBC's Nancy Drew will again be written by Phelan and Rater (Grey's Anatomy), who exec produce via their overall deal with CBS TV Studios. Dan Jinks returns to exec produce.
Should Nancy Drew move forward at NBC, it would feature a completely different cast. The CBS take co-starred Anthony Edwards, Vanessa Ferlito, Steve Kazee, Felix Solis, Rob McClure and Debra Monk.
Nancy Drew arrives as broadcast networks continue to look for proven intellectual property in a bid to cut through the cluttered landscape that is quickly approaching 500 scripted originals.
Husband and wife duo Phelan and Rater are repped by UTA and Myman Greenspan; Jinks is with UTA and Bloom Hergott.
