Portable Bluray player recommendation?
I searched but all the other threads were older, does anyone have any recommendations for a portable Bluray player?
I'd actually rather have a new laptop computer with a BD drive, but they don't seem to make them anymore.
I'm looking for something to watch with in the bedroom or when camping.

Re: Portable Bluray player recommendation?
I remember looking for a blu ray player a few years ago, and found a ton of portable DVD players, but very few blu ray ones. As it is now, you search for portable blu ray player on Amazon and only one comes up. Since blu ray never took off like DVD, I guess most manufacturers didn't see it fit to make portable hardware for it.
You could always buy a laptop with a media slot, then buy and install a laptop blu ray drive. That's what I did and it worked out just fine. In fact that was in 2010, then when my laptop died, I took out the drive and built a desktop and installed it on there. Most blu ray drives cost from $40-$100.

Or you can buy an external drive if you don't want to do any hardware installation.

Portable DVD players, even if some are still available, seem like a thing of the past. Seems like streaming through an iPad or iPhone would have replaced the portable video disc player.
Shouldn't be too surprising that nobody bothered to move on portable blu-ray players since, by the time the technology went mainstream, smart phones and tablets were taking off.

We have our phones and tablets for digital stuff, but I have a sizable disc collection (almost to 1400) and sometimes I like to watch in the bedroom.
Maybe I can add one to a laptop.
thanks

I would say that anyone who has a 1400 disc blu-ray collection, should also have a television and blu-ray player in their bedroom and camper.

Our bedroom is too small for another TV and we go camping in a tent, so I'd want something with a small footprint.

I can understand the frustration, as I almost always buy BD but I sometimes watch away from my TV or on the road. I do have some titles on digital but only a small fraction of my collection. That's prevented me from clearing out DVDs of titles that I also have on BD.

I think I've converted about 3/4ths of my blu/DVD collection. Vudu's disc to digital is $1/blu and $2.50/DVD (as long as you convert 10 or more, or else those prices double) for those that didn't come with digital codes. I convert 10/20 at a time whenever I'm in the mood to. So I just use Vudu whenever I go on a trip these days. Also, my family shares the 700+ movies I now have in my Vudu (UV) library. Now, my physical media doesn't leave my home theater, which I prefer.
