Is this the first real release? I thought this might have been an old necro-thread at first.

I wonder if this is a good sign for studios going back into their vault for niche stuff.

^Yes, this is the first "official" release. MPI released a couple of authorized-by-the-Henning-estate "Ultimate" volumes some time back (with the Christmas crossover episodes w/Pettycoat Junction broken out to gouge the customer a bit more) utilizing 16mm "masters" from Paul Henning's estate. They have the original music and some interesting bonus items (commercials, Linda Henning intros/comments) but sometimes the print quality is lacking (due to transfers from 16mm stock). I own those but will most likely pre-order this release as soon as it's available.

Now if CBS will just listen and pick up with S5 and continue...

Bob, we can only hope they go this route and finish up this deserving series onto DVD once and for all. The 40 episode PD DVD set has most of the first season episodes on them. That's the one that has the CBS Second Season Cover Art on it but in red color for the PD version.
