Joe Alaskey, who voiced Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweetyand Sylvester the Cat, among other legendary cartoon characters, died on Wednesday of cancer, according to multiple reports. He was 63.
Alaskey’s spokesperson, K.P. Lynne, shared the news on the actor’s Facebook page, writing, “Never doubt that Joe loved each and every one of you. Your comments and posts always made his day and brought joy to his heart and life.”
Alaskey replaced Mel Blanc as the voice of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck after his death in 1989, assuming the Warner Bros. characters during the 2000s, including in the film “Looney Tunes: Back in Action.” He has also given voice to other Looney Tunes animated heroes, including Tweety and Sylvester. He served as the primary voice for Plucky Duck on “Tiny Toon Adventures” and Yosemite Sam on “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”
Alaskey won a Daytime Emmy Award for voicing Daffy the Duck on Cartoon Network’s “Duck Dodgers.” He also provided the voice-overs for Marvin the Martian, Foghorn Leghorn, Grandpa Lou Pickles on “Rugrats,” Droopy the Dog on “Tom and Jerry” and the ghost Stinkie from “Casper.” He even lent his talents to “Forrest Gump” as the voice of Richard Nixon.
Alaskey’s last credits include Droopy on “Tom and Jerry,” Green Loontern on “Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham” and the narrator on Discovery Channel’s “Murder Comes to Town.”
Alaskey was also a writer, penning a memoir, “That’s Still Not All Folks!!,” in 2009 and recently publishing a horror novel, “Frater Dementis,” and a collection of short stories, “Queasy Street: Volume One — Eleven Tales of Fantasy.”

I remember when he took over for Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, the change from Mel Blanc was pretty obvious. While no Mel Blanc, he was better than whoever they have doing the voices now for those characters.

Didn't Blanc's son try to take over the voice over reigns for these characters? Or did that happen on Earth 2?

CNN put up a story with the headline "Voice of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck Dies" and my first thought was Mel Blanc's been dead for years!
I think it's misleading to say this guy "was" the voice of Bugs and Daffy. Regardless, he was a talent. RIP.

Mel and Noel (Mel's son) appeared in an interview (Lifetime channel, I think) in the mid-80's where Mel said that Noel was going to take over when he (Mel) died. After Mel's passing, Noel did voices of the Warner's characters in a TV commercial for Oldsmobile, then he and the Looney Tunes drove away.
