Glenn Frey Eagles Guitarist Dead At 67
Glenn Frey, a founding member and guitarist of the Eagles, has died ... TMZ has learned.
Frey had been battling intestinal issues for months and had surgery in November. We're told in the last few days his condition took a turn for the worse.
Glenn was a key player in the band ... co-writing and singing lead vocals on several Eagles hits, including "Take It Easy," "Tequila Sunrise," "Lyin' Eyes," and "Heartache Tonight," to name a few. He also co-wrote "Hotel California" and "Desperado" with Don Henley and took home 6 Grammys with the band.
After the Eagles' 1980 breakup, Glenn launched a successful solo career recording numerous hits, most notably "The Heat Is On," which appeared on the soundtrack to the Eddie Murphy blockbuster "Beverly Hills Cop."
He reunited with the Eagles in '94 for their monster Hell Freezes Over tour and recorded music till the end, releasing what would be his fifth and final solo LP, "After Hours," in 2012.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer had been fighting intestinal issues for awhile but his condition relapsed before the holidays, forcing the Eagles to pull out of their Kennedy Center Honors appearance in December. At the time, the band said he needed major surgery that would require a lengthy recovery, but it appears he was never able to bounce back.

Any other sources? It is TMZ, but with the way this year is going, it wouldn't surprise me.

It Is With The Heaviest of Hearts That We Announce…...the passing of our comrade, Eagles founder, Glenn Frey, in New York City on Monday, January 18th, 2016.
Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia.
The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery.
Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide.

Just got alert from TMZ app. TMZ is the more resourceful than most so discounting shouldn't be in question any more. They have a lot of insiders.
That said, kinda sad. My youngest Daughter (16) just started getting into The Eagles. I started having her listen to solo acts as well.
Celeb death pool is getting crazy.

Wow. Seems like we have lost a lot of good ones recently. He sung lead for the Eagles on most of my favorite songs. I was born in 72 so listened to them a lot growing up because my parents were really in to them.

My race is run
I'm moving on
Like the setting sun
No sad goodbyes

Wow, the Eagles were probably my favorite band since the mid '80s. I only got to see them once, on their last tour...I figured it might be my last chance to see them.
I don't know what I'll do when Henley or Walsh die.

Oh shit. I'm weak in my knees. That's shocking and heart-breaking.
I just saw the Eagles over Memorial Day. He looked and sounded great.

My second favorite Eagle. Really loved his Miami Vice era comeback as a solo artist. As somebody that heard most of the Eagles hits on the radio as a very young kid (because my parents listened to top 40 rock radio) I can say I've always loved the Eagles. I've never understood the widespread hate they receive. Usually extends to their solo material as well.

Apparently the celebrity deaths are no longer coming in 3's... it's looking like they're coming in double-digits now.

That just sounds like an awful triple whammy to go out on...arthritis, colitis and pneumonia. He must have been really sick and in major pain.

Man.
I think this is gonna start happening more frequently with artists from that era. They are getting to be that age where it really isn't all that surprising.

Wow...this is really sad....time to fire up the Eagles Hell Freezes Over Tour DVD.....First Bowie and now Fry. I have a sinking feeling this year we'll see more of the real Rock & Rollers leave us. Damn it...

Wow! I was only a casual fan, but certainly recognize how big the Eagles were. I had no idea he was so sick. RIP to yet another music legend. We're off to a lousy start for 2016...

Exactly. If you look at the age of all the rock acts from the 60's and 70's - they're all ticking timebombs right now. It's going to happen a lot for movie/TV celebs too.

Shocking to hear... The Eagles work is iconic, of course. But I guess I was one of the few who would admit to really liking his solo stuff, as well. To me, it captured the prototypical "80's Sound" (as good or bad as one might take that) as The Eagles captured the "70's Sound."
RIP.

Shocking news. Very sad.
I'm now re-watching the early seasons of Miami Vice, and some of the episodes feature GF's superb solo music. I especially like the sequence early in S02 when Crockett (Don Johnson) is walking alone in NYC & Frey's You Belong to the City is playing over these city scenes. In fact, to a great extent I feel this song pretty much epitomizes what it means to be on your own in the big city....
Also, Smuggler's Blues is an amazing song as well.
For what it's worth, as an '80's kid, the solo songs by GF & DH were what I heard first in the mid-'80's - prior to getting into The Eagles later in the decade...
