Time to Close "Political Film" Subforum

I just posted this in the PF subforum, but based on the overwhelming lack of traffic and interest over there, I'm cross-posting it here so someone will see it:

We have had no new threads in here in over 3 months, and only 2 new threads in the past half-year... one of which received zero comments after being opened; and the other "new" thread was also commenting about how dead this forum is.

Also, during the past 3 months, exactly ONE thread has seen activity, and it has garnered exactly FOUR posts.

I nominate Political Film to be closed or merged into the main Political forum.

Re: Time to Close "Political Film" Subforum

Mabuse posted a thread in that sub-forum in May with the same thought.

Here was one reply, perhaps this is still the concern and reason for not doing so.

Re: Time to Close "Political Film" Subforum

The Mabuse thread was the only thread in the past half-year with any traffic, besides the one that has 4 new posts since September. Otter Apathy has spoken.

Hell, it has less traffic than Book Talk, and that's saying a lot.

I say you create more sub-forums to divide religion, politics and world news.

You're a fucking monster.

Fuck political film. If it's a film... put in the movie thread. End of discussion. You don't like that? Eat an asshole and learn something.

Re: Time to Close "Political Film" Subforum

I recently started threads about a couple of political docs in the Film subsection, and there was no interest there either. With the declining amount of action on DT, I second folding Political Film into Film.

Why not randomly move political threads into the political forum.

Or we could just start posting nude pictures, porn, and other smut into the "Political Films" forum, effectively reopening the adult subforum.

Since nobody even looks at the political films subforum anymore, it could be sort of a private club.

Re: Time to Close "Political Film" Subforum

Here's my dumbass solution:
1. Don't kill it.
2. Move all existing threads to the Movie sub forum.
3. Create one new stickied thread in Political Film saying "Just post in Movie Talk, okay?"
4. If possible, lock the subforum down so no new threads can be created.

A bit of work for the great VinVega, but then at least nothing gets broken... right?

I wonder how much I'd have to pay IB to sponsor a Political Book sub-forum within Otter.

Funny, until you posted that, completely forgot there was a Book Talk...

Re: Time to Close "Political Film" Subforum

The Political Film Subforum is the Venn Diagram of the Political Forum and Film--I believe that's the origin of it's existence. If we get rid of it, we'll have political arguments in the Movie Forum, or clogging the Political Forum with movie titles. It's a good niche around here. It just needs to be spiced up, that's all.

Re: Time to Close "Political Film" Subforum

Having political arguments in the film forum is what political filmmaking is all about: Using film to spark debate. The political film forum has stifled debate, which I suspect is what the powers that be want.

My request is please close the political film forum and put a sticky that says "post it in the film forum"

You could just as easily post it in the political/religious forum. What difference does it make? The movie forum is for discussing the merits of the film *as a film*.

There are people here who love film and discussing film who never go in there. I love the politics forum but there are some who avoid it like the plague.

Re: Time to Close "Political Film" Subforum

Then how about this: live the political film section open, but make it kosher to talk about those films in the normal film section. That way, one way or another, the film gets talked about.

Could we move the Political Film subforum as it is to being a subforum of Movie Talk? I suspect it would get more eyes on it there.

As a subforum of Movie Talk? Yeah, I can buy that.

Re: Time to Close "Political Film" Subforum

Why not make it a documentary subforum. With all the stuff going up on Netflix these days, there's enough material that's easily viewable to keep discussions going.

I second this. Make it a Movie Talk subforum and change it to be about all documentaries and I think you'd get a lot more activity.

I vote to not ghettoize the documentaries. Just let them be in the Movie forum with all the other movies.

^Agreed. Alas, not many people give two fucks about documentaries, but at least they'll have more eyes on them there than in some sub-sub-forum.
