Live, Die, Repeat and Repeat (Edge of Tomorrow 2) - Rumors, news, etc.
If you loved last summer’s “Edge of Tomorrow” — the action thriller starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt as a couple of badasses fighting an impossible war, Cruise with the added benefit of unlimited lives and the drawback of Blunt yelling at him all the time about him being bad at fighting — we’ve got some great news for you.
Cruise himself appears to be pushing for a sequel. At the New York premiere for “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” he told MTV News that he had an idea for a sequel to last summer’s sleeper hit.
“I pitched it to [“Rogue Nation” director and “Edge of Tomorrow” screenwriter Christopher] McQuarrie and [“Edge of Tomorrow” director] Doug [Liman]. We were there one night and I was like, I’ve got an idea for it,” he said.
The manga that the movie is based on, “All You Need Is Kill,” is reportedly also getting a written sequel.
Cruise wouldn’t divulge what his idea was, but he was definitely amped about it.
“It could be so much fun,” he said. “Gotta get Emily. I was like Emily, please. She was like, ’give me another year, please.'”

Let's be fair, making $100 million domestic isn't exactly "nobody" even if it is disappointing.
Would love a sequel to this.

Errr... while there was a manga adaptation, wasn't this all based on a light novel (which is getting a sequel, that much is true)?

I'm not a big Tom Cruise fan but despite that this was a pretty good sci-fi movie. Kept rolling at a nice pace, plenty of turns in the talek. Loved J squad!! They remind me of the rag tag misfit squad in Aliens 2 which had Bill Paxton in it also and he's a great actor. Definitely one to watch. Rated: 4/5

I want to go backwards for a second. I’m sure you’ve heard this from other film nerds, but I loved Edge of Tomorrow, and there’s been a lot of rumblings here and there about maybe doing another movie, a sequel, Tom has said some things. Do you think it’s one of these films that will ever see a sequel or anything to it, or do you think it’s going to be a one-and-done kind of thing?
MCQUARRIE: We have the idea for the sequel locked and loaded.
Really?
MCQUARRIE: Yeah.
Is it something that you have put in treatment form or written anything, or is it just an idea you guys have discussed?
MCQUARRIE: I don’t know what I can say. I can only say it’s a going concern.

Loved the first movie, though I'm a sucker for anything time travel-related (or "time" in general)
Just saw Interstellar this past weekend and that blew my mind, so I'm down for more "time" related movies!

I guess I'm down for this? I loved the first one. Don't see a reason for this but... sure?

Bring it on...! I loved the first one. Maybe they'll do an Independence Day 2 and do a sequel where the aliens return.

I was very surprised at how much I loved the first one. The aliens were just f'n insane.
Would like to see Jack Reacher 2 first though.

Tom Cruise is a consistently reliable performer, and the prospect of the actor teaming up with Emily Blunt and filmmaker Doug Liman on a sci-fi film was certainly promising, but Edge of Tomorrow was that rare film that exceeded expectations. The time travel twisting made the narrative compelling, Cruise playing a coward was a terrific subversion of expectations, and Blunt’s character having a full, deep arc was tremendously fulfilling. Moreover, Liman crafted some fantastic-looking sci-fi action, and somehow found a way to keep the film feeling fresh even though it kept showing the audience the same events over and over again.
The movie was a sizable hit for Warner Bros.—$370.5 million worldwide—but buoyed by critical raves and a strong showing on home video, clamoring for a sequel has grown louder and louder. We learned earlier this year that Edge of Tomorrow 2 was officially in development, with screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie involved, Liman directing, and Cruise and Blunt returning, so when Collider’s own Steve Weintrub recently spoke with Liman in anticipation of his scripted supernatural VR series Invisible, the conversation naturally turned to an update on Edge of Tomorrow 2.
“That is the only sequel that I’m considering doing, and it’s because first of all the story is so amazing—much better than the original film, and I loved and loved the original film—and second of all, it’s a sequel that’s a prequel.”

"A sequel that's a prequel" sounds like it going to be some mind ending time travel craziness Back to the Future II style!

I'm game for it. Hopefully It's better than the first one. Loved it but it went generic with the baddies and the end. still a damn good flick.

I really liked the first one, and while I didn't feel a need for a sequel, I will definitely welcome it.

Sequel to Edge of Tomorrow? Ok! Sequel to Live, Die, Repeat? Eh.
Working title: Live, Die, Repeat, Live, Die, Repeat
Alternate working title: Live, Die, Repeat Harder
Third choice: Edge of Yesterday
Fourth choice: Edge of Tomorrow 2: Time Travel Boogaloo
Already taken: Tomorrow Never Dies
Total mindfuck concept: they just release the first movie again with a sequel title.

Director Doug Liman was speaking to We Got This Covered about his new movie "The Wall" and gave an update on the project.
We Got This Covered
“I’m actively working on Edge of Tomorrow 2 right now, which is going to go by the title Live Die Repeat and Repeat. Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are both signed on.”

No way that's the final title.... it very well might be the working title during production...as a joke...like many films do. But very happy to see this is still a possibility...I'm guessing as a 2019 release.
