Re: Post a song you like or love.

The whole album is fantastic, but I've always loved this one in particular:

Re: Post a song you like or love.

I'm a sucker for songs where bands quote their earlier works. I have been since The Police. Hell, I have been since the first time I heard Glass Onion on The White Album.

Big Country's "Harvest Home". Good tune.

While I'm at it, might as well also post "I Walk the Hill", which is possibly B.C.'s best song.

Re: Post a song you like or love.

I've just discovered Kirara on YouTube and, while I've liked everything that I've heard from him, "Hail" is my favorite by far. I know that I've listened to this multiple times daily since I discovered it last week. Give it a minute or so to get really cranked up:

Excellent. Here's a great early one--I still think it should have been on The Crossing:

Here's one of my favorites at the moment. The video is great, and went in a direction I didn't expect.

Re: Post a song you like or love.

I posted this in the other thread, but the video was taken down from Yt. Martin Briley's "A Little Knowledge Is A Dangerous Thing" should have been a big hit. Such a catchy number. I'm especially fond of the elegant musical transition from verse to verse at 0:37.

I was a fan back in the day--I've still got Fear of the Unknown on vinyl, and a special 12" DJ maxi single pushing "The Man I Feel" and "I Don't Feel Better." "I Don't Feel Better" was the track that drew me to the album, but "A Little Knowledge..." was the keeper. I also liked his lone Top 40 (but just barely) single, "Salt in My Tears":

And here's a song that I really love ("Climbing Up the Love Tree") by an artist that kind of reminded me of Martin Briley, Francis Dunnery:

Yeah, "Salt in My Tears" is another good one. He was accused of misogyny because of some of his venomous lyrics.

Another new wave classic that doesn't get played much anymore:

Probably my favorite Simple Minds song...before they changed:

Re: Post a song you like or love.

"Black Sheets of Rain" (Bob Mould tune covered live by Ryan Adams). Lots of banter/tuning; actual song begins around 2:20 mark:

*****************************************************************

"If I Needed You" by Townes van Zandt covered by Andrew Bird. I think this is the live version done on the empty Letterman set during Hurricane Sandy; unfortunately, the video has been removed due to copyright violations. He's backed by Tift Merritt on guitar & Alan Hampton on upright bass.

*****************************************************************

"Darkness, Darkness" Jesse Colin Young song covered by Richard Shindell.

Re: Post a song you like or love.

"Roadsinger (To Warm You Through the Night)" by Yusuf/Cat Stevens. From 2009 but sounds very much like classic Cat; longtime fans will appreciate some of the imagery from the video:
************************************

"Slow Train" Joe Bonamassa:

************************************

"Dun Ringill" Jethro Tull:

Listen with headphones if possible.

Re: Post a song you like or love.

"The Way It Will Be" by Gillian Welch & David Rawlings. No words to describe the beauty of the melody, lyrics, and performance.

**************************

"Caleb Myer" another by Welch/Rawlings from the same concert. Have heard this performed live them at least 4 times; this still remains the best.

***************************

"Sloe Gin" another by Joe Bonamassa from Vienna Music Hall concert. In a word...haunting.

Re: Post a song you like or love.

"8 Dogs 8 Banjos" Old Crow Medicine Show. Be sure to watch the entire video for the whole performance. If either the song or the live performance...or both...don't put a smile on your face, you might as well crawl into your grave right now & start pulling dirt over you.

******************************************************

"As The Crow Flies" Rory Gallagher (live Irish Tour '74):

******************************************************

"The Mountain" Steve Earle & Del McCoury Band. Great video.
